Rereading feels productive because everything looks familiar. The exam needs you to retrieve and use it without the page in front of you.

Try this short answer-check-improve cycle with one question today. It is small enough to do properly and specific enough to show what needs work.

Save it for your next revision session.

October Psychology tuition availability

I have space for a small number of new one-to-one online students studying GCSE or A-Level Psychology.

I support AQA, OCR, Edexcel and international specifications, with lessons shaped around the individual student. Common priorities include exam technique, research methods, essay writing, application, evaluation, timing and gaps in course knowledge.

I am an experienced Psychology teacher, former Head of Psychology and current AQA examiner. Lessons are structured, practical and focused on helping students use what they know more effectively.

To enquire, message me with the word PSYCHOLOGY and include the student's year group, exam board and main difficulty. You can also find more information at psychologytutoronline.co.uk.

"I am bad at Psychology" is not a useful diagnosis.

A student may have a specific knowledge gap. They may know the content but misread command words. They may struggle to apply ideas to a scenario, stop evaluation too early or simply run out of time.

Each problem needs a different response. More revision can help a knowledge gap, but it will not automatically teach application or improve timing.

October goal: name the real problem before choosing the solution.

Research methods is very good at being pushed to the bottom of the revision list.

Students often tell themselves they will sort it out later — then suddenly they are trying to learn variables, sampling, validity, calculations and statistical tests all at once.

The good news is that it becomes much more manageable when it is practised little and often.

This week's blog explains why leaving research methods until revision season causes problems and gives students a simple way to start tackling it now.

Read it here:

Mocks should test progress - they should not be the first time a student discovers that their revision method or answer technique is not working.

The first month of lessons, homework and assessments already gives useful clues. Is the issue remembering content, understanding the question, applying material, developing evaluation or completing the paper in time?

Find the real problem now and the next few months can be used much more intelligently.

If you would like help diagnosing the gap, message me with PSYCHOLOGY.

September is nearly over. If Psychology is already wobbling, this is the useful point to notice it.

One confusing topic is normal. What matters is whether a pattern is developing: the student understands lessons but cannot answer questions, keeps receiving the same feedback, avoids research methods, takes far too long to write, or is already losing confidence.

October is early enough to identify the cause, correct the approach and build better habits before mocks and heavier Year 13 pressure.

I am now taking enquiries for a small number of one-to-one online GCSE and A-Level Psychology places. Message me with PSYCHOLOGY and include the year group, exam board and main concern.
