Enrolment for our Access to Higher Education courses is happening all of this week. If you have a GCSE grade 4/C in either maths or English, head down to our Southend or Grays campus to start your journey to a new career.

Access to psychosocial Studies

Our Access to Nursing and Midwifery students completed their practical assessment this week for one of the modules on the course, Practical Skills for Health Professionals. During the module they learnt basic life support, how to use a AED (Automated External Defibrillator), how to measure vital signs like blood pressure and pulse, and how to put someone in the Recovery position. The learners only have a few more assessments to complete before they are ready to move on to university in September.

Our Access to Art and Design students took part in Southend City Day. They exhibited some of the work they have been doing towatds their assignments. The assignment theme was Rooted in Resilience. As always we're blown away by their creativity.

Last week our Access to Higher Education students were invited to the Forum by the University Centre South Essex for a Transition to Higher Education day. Lecturers from UCSE shared their knowledge with our students to support them in preparing for progression to university.

Our Access to HE students went the the UK Universities Search Fair at Chelmsfird Racecourse today. The day was packed with information and advise to help the students make informed decisions about their progression to university. Our thanks goes to the University Centre South Essex who funded the coach to take us there.

It's always nice to see a past Access student progress in their career. This week Bethany started a teaching post at USP. After Access, Bethany studied for a degree in Psychology and Sociology at the University Centre South Essex, then went on to complete a Masters before achieving her Professional Graduate Certificate in Education at South Essex College to become a qualified teacher. Such a wonderful journey that started with the brave decision to enrol on an Access to HE course at South Essex College. Access courses really do open up opportunities and offer a second chance at education.

Access to HE tutors are attending a training session on neurodiversity today ready to support all our learners in the new academic year. Inclusive practice is so important in helping adults return to education.
