Rochford District Litter picks

Today we focused our efforts around Hockley, with some of our dedicated team members heading out to Church Road to clear what they could. And wow… what a haul we collected between us! 👏

So many bottles and cans, general litter and, of course, the usual assortment of things that clearly decided they no longer wanted to belong to anyone! 😂

We also discovered that someone had kindly attempted to recycle a whole load of children’s clothes at the Southend Road Car Park… unfortunately, they hadn’t actually put them into the recycling bins. 🤦‍♀️
The foxes and wind had done their own redistribution, so we ended up collecting clothes from all around the car park. Such a waste when the clothes were perfectly usable!

🍽️ Interesting find of the day: some perfectly good peppers! 🫑also a McLaren buggie if anyone is interested? Some china cups we donated to charity.

We recycled Plenty of bottles and cans, and a whole lot of general rubbish, our dedicated pickers have returned back to Church Rd to finish off the bit they didn't do earlier. Got another 2 more bags which will go in home bin. Plus 2 tyres.

In other news… a new Cycle Storage Container has appeared in the car park, just by the Public Toilets. 🚲

The weather hasn’t changed, another Hot One for the Litter Pick! 🗑️☀️

Today’s litter pick, some of us met at Hawkwell Shops, still starting a little earlier thanks to the heat! 🌞

A big WELCOME to our two new volunteers who joined us today, and also to our Duke of Edinburgh volunteer’s and one of their sisters who came along to lend a hand. 👋💚

Some of the team picked closer to home around Golden Cross, Rochford, and Hockley; then they met up with us later teamwork makes the dream work! 🙌

The litter haul included the usual mountain of bottles and wrappers, plus two absolutely enormous screws… because apparently litter picking needed a little DIY thrown in! 🔩😂

Over at Clements Hall, the play park is open and being well used, while the AstroTurf has now been completely removed and is awaiting its shiny new resurfacing. ⚽️
We had a four-legged celebrity encounter! 🐶❤️ We met the lovely Nelly, sporting a rather fetching headscarf . 👑🐾

Unusual items found included a pair of child’s boots, kids toy, goalie glove, large screws, we also found a little cash, which has been added to our charity kitty. Every penny helps! 💰❤️

Another great morning with a brilliant bunch of volunteers; thank you all for giving up your time and helping keep our community looking better. 💚🙌🙏

Rochford District Litter picks

Josh was out litter picking once again today, despite the weather conditions- nothing is stopping him from achieving his voluntary hours towards his Duke of Edinburgh award.
He went to the Woodlands Avenue open space Rayleigh to litter pick earlier this morning. He picked up 140 items including a croc shoe! Well done Josh- great work 🙌 Thank you 🙏

VOLUNTEERS IS AKE ON WEEKLY PICK IN THE SUNSHINE 🌞
Litter pickers cleared rubbish from several areas of the Rochford district this week during an early morning clean-up to avoid soaring temperatures.
Members of Rochford District Litter Picks met at Clements Hall in Hawkwell before spreading out across nearby streets and green spaces,
The group collected bottles, vapes, fast-food packaging and a variety of unusual items, including a fly-tipped television, ornaments, a shield and several golf balls destined for recycling.
A total of 17 discarded dog waste bags were also removed, while volunteers found 16p to add to their running collection of coins recovered during litter picks.
Meanwhile, volunteers in Hockley cleared litter from a number of roads and parkland, where most of the bottles and cans collected had been left behind.
A spokesman for Rochford District Litter Picks said: "Another good morning's work, plenty of litter removed and thankfully we finished before the sun completely fried us.
"Thank you to everyone who came along and helped keep our local area looking a little less littery."

🌞 Another early start for today’s litter pick due to the temperatures threatening to turn us all into puddles, we met a little earlier at Park Gardens, Clements Hall, Hawkwell before heading off around the surrounding areas. 🥵🗑️

The usual rubbish were waiting for us including bottles, vapes and general litter, including fast-food waste plus a grand total of 16p to add to the litter-picking fortune! 💰😂

But today’s one of our group said, “What on earth is that doing there?”
Our find was a collection of ornaments tucked into a hedge. 🤔 We decided to leave them exactly where they were as we weren’t sure whether they were part of a memorial?
Better safe than sorry!

Unusual stuff at Clements Hall found, well it is always good for tossed away Poo 💩 bags, 17 were picked up today. Plus a fly tipped flat screen TV, ornaments , a shield, cloth and a couple of golf balls which we recycle ♻️

We were also very pleased to welcome our newest Duke of Edinburgh volunteer, James, who joined us today with his Dad, Peter. Welcome to you both, it is always great to have you with us!

Our Hockley pickers cleared around Spa Road, Hawkwell Road, Highams Road, Southend Road and library.
Spending most of their time in the park by the British Legion, as it has been used as a rubbish bin 🤬.
99% of the bottles and cans picked today came from there. There has also been a fan left by one of the bins on the green, there, and bins are overflowing for recycling. I think that’s all 😁

However, the Clements ‘mixed recyclable bin’ doesn’t seem to get emptied anymore.
We think it’s because the huge Newspaper and Magazine container which is now so close to it that the bin men can’t open it and get the container out. We Saw them just doing right hand one when we was at Clements early last week. We have reported this to RDC .

Another good morning’s work, plenty of litter removed and thankfully we finished before the sun completely fried us! ☀️😂

Josh who is continuing to work towards his Duke of Edinburgh Award, went to the Brook Road industrial estate today and picked up 171 pieces of litter including 34 bottles and cans. No unusual items to report today. What a fantastic job he is doing for our community- volunteering in his spare time to contribute towards our environmental protection efforts.

VOLUNTEERS REMOVED UNUSUAL FINDS IN CLEAN-UP
VOLUNTEERS from Rochford District Litter Picks spent another sunny morning helping to keep parks and streets tidy during their latest community clean-up.
The group's main litter pick focused on Hawkwell and Ashingdon Memorial Park, Main Road, Rectory Road and surrounding areas, while some members stayed closer to home to tackle litter in their own neighbour-hoods.
Among the items collected were drinks bottles, dog waste bags and general litter, while more unusual finds included a full-sized spade, a child's spade, children's trainers, a refill drinks container, a full bottle of flavoured spring water and even a pair of underwear.
Volunteers also recovered a cardboard box from the overwintering pond at Magnolia Lake and reported fly-tipping incidents to Rochford
Council.

We enjoyed another Sunny morning of litter picking this time at Hawkwell and Ashingdon Memorial Park, Main Road, Rectory Road Hawkwell and the surrounding areas, whilst some of the team stayed closer to home.

Our group made an earlier start as temperatures climbed to 26°C, and it was definitely the right decision!

The park was scattered with empty (and even some full!) drinks bottles, along with the usual dog poo bags and general litter. Among today’s more unusual finds was… a spade! 🪏plus a child’s spade, a pair of child’s trainers, a refill drink container and a full bottle of flavoured spring water, lots of empty plastic bottles were recycled, a cardboard box recovered from the overwintering pond at Magnolia Lake and I assume a teenager went home without his shreddies (underwear)!shocked !

Reports of fly tipping were submitted to RDC to arrange for these items to be collected.

It was lovely to see the new benches that have been installed around the park, and a reminder that autumn isn’t too far away, with acorns already appearing on the trees. 🌳

Volunteer Group Clears Large amount of Litter

VOLUNTEER litter-picking group has removed large amounts of rubbish from parts of the Rochford district during its latest clean-up effort.
Members of Rochford District
Litter Picks focused mainly on Stambridge, while other volunteers carried out collections in Hawkwell and Hockley.
The group said Stambridge Road was particularly affected by discarded waste, with volunteers filling two bags of recyclable litter before reaching Broomhills.
Items collected included food packaging, drinks containers, discarded vapes, car parts and other rubbish left along the roadside.
Volunteers also reported that recycling bins along the route were already full and have contacted Rochford Council to request they are emptied.
The group thanked everyone who gave up their time to support the clean-up and encouraged residents to dispose of waste responsibly.
