Exploring the seaside today was so much fun! 🐚

We collected lots of seaside treasures, explored rock pools, dipped our toes in the water and even got swept beneath the waves! 🌊

We followed the fish through the sea, collected their shiny scales and eventually made it back onto the beach for a lovely relaxing sunbathe…

…until some cheeky birds started dropping their feathers on us!

And just like that, our four summer Move to Bloom adventures are complete! 🄹

From pirates and dinosaurs to outer space and the seaside, it has been SO much fun bringing all of these little worlds to life.

Thank you so much to every little explorer and grown up who has joined me this summer. šŸ¤

Next stop… Into the Woods. šŸŒ³šŸ¦ŠšŸ‚

The A-Z of Move to Bloom…

D is for Development 🌿

To a child, they’re crossing a wobbly bridge, blasting off into space, searching for dinosaur eggs or diving beneath the waves.

But underneath all of that imaginative play, so much development is happening.

They’re balancing, coordinating their bodies, building strength and developing spatial awareness.

They’re listening, problem-solving, making decisions and using their imaginations.

They’re exploring new language, practising social skills and building confidence in their own ideas.

And the best bit?

They don’t need to know any of that.

To them, they’re just on an adventure. 🌿

At Move to Bloom, development isn’t something I need to turn into a lesson or an outcome for the children to achieve.

It’s thoughtfully woven into the experience, while they’re busy moving, playing, exploring and having fun. šŸ¤

Our little explorers are heading to the seaside this week for our final summer adventure!

There will be buckets to fill, treasures to discover and a whole imaginary seaside world to explore…

I’d better get back to dying pasta for the coral reef šŸ˜†

A little Move to Bloom update…

One of the best things about running our summer adventures has been getting to see how children of different ages experience Move to Bloom and it’s helped me refine what I want our regular classes to look like.

I’ve realised that our littlest explorers need something slightly different.

The guided adventures work beautifully when children are ready to really step into the imaginary world, helping me solve problems, suggesting what we could do next and exploring the movements in their own way.

Younger children can absolutely enjoy movement adventures too, but they benefit from an experience designed with more grown up support, movement together, sensory exploration and connection.

So, from September, our Into the Woods class will now be for children aged 2–6 years. šŸŒ³šŸ‚

And our younger explorers aren’t being forgotten!

During the first half term, I’ll be running a special taster session for children from crawling–2 years, giving families a chance to experience the gentler, more grown up supported version of Move to Bloom before this age group launches more regularly.

There will intentionally be some flexibility around age 2, because children develop differently and you know your little one best. Once both classes are running, families with 2 year olds will be able to choose the experience that feels right for their child.

Would you like to hear when the Crawling–2 taster is announced?
Send me a message and I can add you to my mailing list so you’ll be one of the first to receive the details. šŸ’Œ

I’m really excited about this change. It means I can create adventures that are much more intentionally designed around the children in each group, while keeping everything that makes Move to Bloom, Move to Bloom.

A little behind the scenes from this week’s Move to Bloom prep. I love creating the play invitations for each adventure and seeing what the children do with it!

And something that I’ve loved hearing from a few parents is that Move to Bloom gives them ideas for simple things they can recreate at home too. šŸ¤

At our last adventure, one of our lovely parents described Move to Bloom as a ā€œsafe spaceā€ and it honestly meant the world to me.

Move to Bloom is designed to be a safe space for both children and their grown ups. Where little ones don’t have to sit still or join in straight away or join in at all.

A space where a child being a child is never something a grown up needs to apologise for.

And that means I want grown ups to feel safe from that feeling that everyone is watching because your little one isn’t joining in. Or from worrying that they’re being too loud, too busy or doing something differently. Safe from feeling like you need to persuade them to participate because everyone else’s child seems to be.

So when a parent tells me that Move to Bloom feels like a safe space, that’s so much more than a lovely compliment.

It’s exactly what I hoped it would be.

šŸš€ Today’s Space Adventure was SO much fun! ⭐

Our little astronauts blasted off into space to help Nova the Alien find the power stars she’d lost on her journey to Earth. šŸ‘½

šŸŒ™ First, we landed on the Moon, where we experienced zero gravity and experimented with making big, slow movements.

šŸ”“ Then we zoomed off to Mars, carefully stepping over the rocky surface as we searched for another missing star.

🪐 Next stop was Saturn! We spun like Saturn’s rings before making our way through them.

šŸŒ¬ļø Our final stop was Jupiter, where we wrapped up warm, stayed low and tried not to get blown over by the enormous winds!

At every stop, there was another power star to find. And once we had collected all five, Nova finally had enough power to take us safely back to Earth.

We landed back home, ran to give our grown ups a BIG cuddle and then helped Nova power up her spaceship one last time before waving goodbye as she blasted off home. šŸ‘‹šŸš€

All that moving, balancing, stretching, spinning, imagining, problem solving and exploring wrapped up in one big space adventure.

C is for Curiosity

Every element of Move to Bloom is designed to spark curiosity.

From finding something unexpected waiting when children first walk through the door, to the carefully thought out play invitations during Bloom Time, I want children to think:

What’s this? What can I do with it? What happens if…?

You might notice that I never label the different play stations. I might have an idea when I create an invitation of how children could explore it or what skills it might support but that doesn’t mean that’s what they have to do.

Something intended for filling and pouring might end up being transported across the room. Resources might be combined in ways I hadn’t considered. And something I thought would be the star of the show might be completely ignored. šŸ˜‚

I want children to get curious, experiment, make their own discoveries and follow their ideas wherever they take them.

Tomorrow, there will be a cardboard box that I’ve turned into a spaceship for our Space Adventure. And despite all the other carefully planned resources I’ll be setting up, we all know the cardboard box is probably going to be the main event. šŸ˜‚

Because to a child, a cardboard box isn’t just a cardboard box. It’s something to climb into, hide inside, investigate, fill, empty, transform and imagine with.

Sometimes the simplest things leave the most room for curiosity.

C is for Curiosity and at Move to Bloom, there’s no ā€œrightā€ way to explore.

Slide 6 is probably my favourite 🄹

I’m so grateful for all of the lovely feedback that I have received from parents.

Creating something new is always a bit scary. You can have a really clear idea in your head of what you want something to feel like, but until families actually walk through the door, you don’t really know whether you’ve managed to create it.

I wanted Move to Bloom to feel calm, welcoming and different. A space where children feel comfortable, where there’s no pressure to join in, and where they can move, imagine, explore and play in their own way.

So to hear parents use those exact words has meant so much.

Move to Bloom pairs a guided movement adventure with time to explore themed play invitations to support little ones to build confidence, develop physical skills, spark their imaginations and explore the world around them through play.
