Temperatures across Hampshire are expected to reach and exceed 35°C this week, with a Red Heat-Health Alert from the UK Health Security Agency in place from Wednesday to Thursday.

This is the highest level of alert and means the heat could have serious impacts on everyone’s health – not just those who are usually considered more vulnerable.

Please take care and follow some simple steps to stay safe:

🌡️ Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm where possible and stay in the shade.
🚰 Drink plenty of water and take it easy during the hottest part of the day.
👕 Wear light, loose clothing, a hat and sunscreen outdoors.
🏠 Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds in sunny rooms.
🤝 Check in on neighbours, friends and family – especially older people, young children and anyone with health conditions.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked car, even for a short time.

Thinking of cooling off in the water? Rivers, lakes and the sea can be dangerous, even for strong swimmers. Choose lifeguarded areas where possible, avoid alcohol and never swim alone.

Know the signs of heat illness:

⚠️ Heat exhaustion can cause dizziness, nausea and extreme thirst.
🚑 Heatstroke is an emergency. If someone becomes confused, stops sweating or has trouble breathing, call 999 immediately.

Hot weather may also affect travel, air quality and increase fire risk, so plan ahead and take extra care.

We’d like to make you aware of recent concerns about popular “dumpling squishy” toys. While these items may look fun and exciting—especially with the surprise “blind box” trend—some have been found to contain unsafe chemicals and may not meet UK safety standards.
👉 Reports have highlighted issues such as strong unusual smells and products being sold without proper safety checks.
👉 These toys can sometimes be counterfeit or poorly made, especially when bought from unverified sellers.
✅ advice to parents:

Purchase toys only from trusted, reputable retailers
Check for UK safety markings (such as the CE or UKCA mark)
Avoid products with strong chemical smells
Supervise younger children during play

Does your child love these squishy dumplings? They’re the latest craze – with unboxing videos gaining millions of views.

But their popularity and high demand mean lots of fakes are now available to buy. And the counterfeit versions may contain harmful levels of dangerous chemicals.

✓ Buy from trusted retailers if you can – fakes may not meet our safety standards
✓ Check for proper labelling – missing safety information is a sign it’s fake
✓ If the toy is damaged, leaking or smells unusual, stop using it
✓ Avoid buying for under 3s - they’re most at risk from dangerous toys.
