On Saturday, our lovely ladies got together to enjoy the very generous gift from the families of children who left us in the summer. We enjoyed a delicious Afternoon Tea at Meadow Croft Kitchen and all had a relaxing few hours. Thank you to everyone who contributed, it was a great way to kick off the new term!

ORAL HEALTH, HEALTHY EATING AND FARMING
Over the past few weeks, we have been talking to the children about how to look after their teeth, how to eat healthily and where the food they eat comes from.
It has been an exciting few weeks and the children have loved all of the themed activities. They played dentist roleplay and dress-up, 'cleaned' A4 laminate teeth, and made 'tooth' and 'toothbrush' crafts.
At circle time, we talked about what foods are healthy and what foods are a treat using flashcards, and the children got most of them right. They did some fruit printing, prepared our planters for planting seeds, made vegetable soup in the tuff tray and worked on their fine motor skills picking up corn and peas with tweezers.
This week we started to talk about where the all the food comes from and the children have enjoyed lots of themed tuff trays including a farm set-up, a textures tray with real fruit and vegetables and made animal paper plate crafts.

PERFECT WEATHER FOR OUTDOOR PLAY
Whilst the children access our outdoor area in all weathers, the recent warmer weather and sunshine has meant that they have spent much more time outside, accessing all the different areas in our large preschool garden..........making castles in the sandpit, building in the construction area, operating the diggers in the gravel pit, playing musical instruments, climbing on the equipment or in the tree den......painting the fences, watering the vegetable seeds, chalking on the blackboards, playing with the busy board, or painting on the easel..........playing bat and ball, playing football, riding scooters, trikes and bubble cars, bouncing on the trampoline, swirling ribbon wands, having a picnic on the grass or just chilling in the hideaway.
We are very proud of our preschool garden and all the children love spending time outside.

WORLD EARTH DAY
Last week, children in our Little Learners room, marked World Earth Day with some fun activities.
They watched an age-appropriate programme, 'How Can We Help Our Planet' which talked about recycling, disposing of rubbish properly, turning off lights and not wasting water.
The children made a lovely group collage of the earth, made World Earth Day hats and a recycling sign craft. Tuff trays included one focusing on how plastic in the ocean is harmful to sea-life. Fine motor skills were developed with tweezers and pom poms (putting the green ones on the land, blue ones in the sea and white ones on the icecaps), and with some pencil control sheets.
An educational and fun few days!

OCCUPATIONS
We have been talking to the children about 'People Who Help Us' and different occupations. The children have loved all the different activities, role-play dress-up, and sharing what their parents do for a job at circle time. Here are some photos of just a few of the occupations we have covered: lollipop person and road safety, builder, baker, fire fighter, hairdresser, police officer, refuse collector and supermarket cashier.

OUR VERY OWN BIG GARDEN BIRD WATCH🐦🦆🐥

To coincide with the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch, our children in Little Learners had a fabulous week learning all about birds. They made binoculars which they used to go bird watching around the school grounds, they made bird biscuits to take home and put out for birds in their garden, and they threaded cheerios to make a bird feeder. The children learnt lots of interesting facts from watching videos and also enjoyed doing some step by step bird drawings, following a member of staff. There were also some themed crafts and tuff trays throughout the week but the highlight had to be going to see some newly hatched chicks in the reception classrooms.
