IMPORTANT INFORMATION – SCHOOL CLOSURE
Dear Families,
South Bank Primary will close early on Friday 4th September 2026, to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our pupils.
South Bank Primary School will be closing at 12.00 for all pupils.
For those pupils who access local authority transport they will be collected from school at 11.30am.
Why we are closing early?
A funeral is being held locally at St John’s church on Normanby Road that day and we are expecting large numbers of people in the area which will inevitably cause congestion and transport disruption in the immediate area. This decision has been reached after careful consideration of the potential impact on the departure of pupils, staff and families. We recognise the inconvenience this may cause and thank our families for their understanding and cooperation.
In consultation with all local head teachers and the Local Authority there will be a staggered closure of the local primary and secondary schools.
St Peters – 12pm
South Bank Primary – 12pm
St Margarets – 12.15pm
Collection arrangements
School finishes at 12pm on Friday 4th September 2026 for all children. Please collect your child at this time from the usual collection points.
Home walkers – if your child normally walks home after school and you still want them to do this on Friday; we will release all home walkers from their pods at 12pm with the expectation that they will be heading straight home. If due to the circumstances, you wish to collect your child please just ensure you are at their pod doors for 12pm.
Our normal Safeguarding procedures will be implemented if children are not collected by 12.15pm
If your child attends wraparound care, please check with the provider about whether sessions will run as normal.
Support for pupils
We recognise that some pupils may feel upset or anxious about the funeral taking place locally. Our pastoral team, Nick and Sarah, will be available to support all pupils. If you think your child will need extra support, please speak to them. They are both always on the school gate each morning and afternoon.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Keeping pupils safe is our priority and we appreciate your help in making the day as calm as possible.
With thanks,
Tammy Cooper
