As we are coming to the end of another fantastic year of dedication and hard work I would like to wish all my Year 11s every success as they move on in their education. I am so proud of you all. What a privilege to have been able to work alongside you and watch you grow, both in confidence and knowledge. You deserve the best life has to offer…. Now have a well deserved jolly good rest. It’s been a very busy, but very successful summer term. It has, however, been particularly sad in the last few weeks as I’ve been saying goodbye to quite a few long term pupils. As they make their way onto post GCSE studies I would like to wish them all well. I’m proud of their hard work and dedication and the amazing progress they have all made. 👏👏🎉

With the year 6 SATs behind us and 2 out of 3 of the GCSE exams completed I need to say how proud I am of the students taking their exams this year. Every single one has show grit and determination to do their very best. I don’t think I’ve ever had a cohort quite so committed to their learning. It has been a real pleasure to work with them this year and I’d like to wish them all the best as they move forward to the next step of their learning.

It has been fantastic to be able to return to face to face lessons in May and work alongside everyone again. It has made me realise just how amazing it is to watch our young people grow in confidence as they learn new things.
I have said goodbye this week to the last of my GCSE students, some of whom I’ve been teaching for a while, and they have all left saying they feel so much more confident now and are proud of how far they’ve come. Well I couldn’t be more proud of them either!! I would like to wish them all the best as they move onto the next stage of their education.
I am pleased to say that I have now managed to offer all the new students on the waiting list a space, but that does mean I am now fully booked up for the remainder of this term. If you are interested in booking for a space later in the year please do let me know.

Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a relaxing, if quieter than usual, Christmas this year.

Well the disappointing, but unsurprising, news that schools are once again closed means that I am offering maths lessons online once again this term. However, my hope that we will be able to resume face-to-face lessons by Easter remains strong. I will update students on this as the term progresses.

If you would like to use this term to support your child with extra maths lessons but are unsure whether learning online is going to be effective please don’t worry. I would like to reassure you that each lesson is planned carefully to meet individual needs using personalised pages on an interactive shared whiteboard. Through Zoom students are able to write on the shared screen alongside my workings and explanations and are even able to ‘take control’ of my computer to access online games/activities.

What a great start to a new term! It was so lovely starting back to face-to face lessons yesterday. I have set up my teaching room in line with government guidelines and was wondering how it would feel, but with such positive students arriving for lessons again I can see that we will cope with the new measures with good spirit. I’m looking forward to a productive term catching up as much as possible on those ‘missed’ months.

It was a very tricky time this summer for those students wanting to take their GCSEs who couldn’t. I’m very aware that you didn’t get a chance to show how much you’ve learnt and how far you’ve come with your maths learning. However, both you, and I, know how much hard work you put in and how you deserve to do well as you move on to the next stage of your learning. I’d like to wish you all the best.

Now lockdown seems to be easing I am starting to look forward to September when, all being well, schools will reopen to all pupils. At this stage I hope to return to face to face lessons here at my house. I am now taking bookings for regular weekly lessons to support your child as they catch up with any maths work missed and ensure they progress confidently. I give one hour lessons after school to pupils in years 3 up to year 11. If you would like more information about lessons, or to book a place, please use my contact details below.

In addition, I am very aware that many students may have fallen behind with their maths learning during lockdown. This is very understandable considering the many pressures that have been put on families. On the positive side we are now all becoming much more familiar with technology out of necessity and so, if you would like to book a few catch up one-to-one sessions between now and August, I can provide these online using Zoom combined with an interactive whiteboard.

Well what an interesting spring term that turned out to be! I hope you’ve all had a lovely Easter break, enjoying the beautiful weather in your gardens and spending time at home with your families and remain fit and well.

I feel very disappointed for those year 11 students who have not been given the opportunity to show us all how far they have progressed and been able to prove their abilities. I know how hard you have worked and just want to say that I appreciate all the work and commitment you have shown in your learning. You deserve to move forward knowing that you have done your very best as much as those students who have come before you.

As we are all learning, and there’s no reason to ever stop, I have spent the last 2 weeks of last term and my Easter break learning how to teach maths lessons online. I have been fortunate to have been given lots of advice on how to start tutoring online from current online tutors. I’m now using Zoom video conferencing software with an interactive whiteboard which I can share with students. With screen sharing we can also share PowerPoints and interactive games. It has been a steep learning curve but I am now feeling very comfortable with the new technology (new to me that is!).

As a result of several of my year 11 students stopping lessons earlier than expected I now have a few spaces available for new students. If you might be interested in some private tuition for your son/daughter online while schools are shut please get in touch. You do not need to be considering long term tuition. Also, if you would like to book a regular after school space for when schools resume please book in as soon as possible to secure a space.
