🏴‍☠️ Ahoy, little adventurers! 🏴‍☠️

This week, the Butterfly Class enjoyed a fantastic Pirate-Themed Day as we celebrated their final month at Millwood House! 💙

The children embraced the adventure by dressing up as pirates and setting off on a treasure hunt around the garden, following clues and working together to discover the hidden treasure. This provided wonderful opportunities to develop their problem-solving, communication, teamwork and listening skills.

Our little pirates also explored the pirate ship climbing frame and sand pit, supporting their physical development, coordination, balance and imaginative play. ⚓️

We got wonderfully messy creating skull and crossbone flags using natural resources, encouraging the children to explore different textures, develop their creativity and strengthen their fine motor skills. 🌿🎨

The fun continued with a pirate-themed messy tuff tray, providing opportunities for sensory exploration, language development and imaginative storytelling. 🏴‍☠️

To finish our busy day of adventures, the children enjoyed making cupcakes for a special treat, developing their independence and confidence as they followed instructions, mixed ingredients and explored early mathematical concepts such as measuring, counting and quantities. 🧁

It was a wonderful day filled with learning through play, creativity, exploration and lots of happy memories.
We will treasure all the wonderful memories and adventures we’ve shared at Millwood House.

🗣️ Every interaction is an opportunity to learn.

Communication and Language is one of the seven areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). In our dedicated Baby Suite for children aged 0 to 2 years, every conversation, question and shared moment helps babies build the confidence to communicate.

Through interactive games, colourful resources, songs and one-to-one support from our caring practitioners, children begin to recognise colours, understand new words, develop their listening skills and express themselves with growing confidence. Every smile, gesture, sound and first word is celebrated as an important milestone.

At Millwood House, we know that language is built through meaningful relationships. By creating a warm, nurturing environment where children feel listened to and encouraged, we help lay the foundations for confident communication and a lifelong love of learning. 💙

🌼 Big discoveries begin in little gardens.

Understanding the World is one of the seven areas of learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). In our dedicated Baby Suite for children aged 0 to 2 years, the Baby Garden provides endless opportunities for children to connect with the natural world through safe, hands-on exploration.

From watering flowers and watching plants grow to feeling different textures, noticing colours and listening to the sounds of nature, every outdoor experience encourages curiosity and wonder. Supported by our nurturing practitioners, children begin to explore their environment, ask questions and make sense of the world around them.

At Millwood House, we believe the greatest adventures often begin with the simplest moments. Our Baby Garden is a place where curiosity flourishes, confidence grows and every child is encouraged to discover something new every day. 💙

Behind every confident child is a team who genuinely cares.

A huge thank you to Sharon, our Nursery Manager, and Chelsea, who led our Class of 2026 Graduation Ceremony and Garden Party with such warmth, energy and enthusiasm. From celebrating every child’s achievements to creating memorable moments for families, they made the day incredibly special.

At Millwood House, our celebrations are about so much more than a ceremony. They are about bringing children, families and our team together, recognising each child’s unique journey and creating meaningful experiences that everyone will remember.

Thank you both for your unwavering dedication, for the love and care you show our children every day, and for building such wonderful, interactive relationships with our parents. It is these connections that make the Millwood House community so special. 💙🐘🎓

Some moments are impossible to script.

Gaavun’s laughter says everything about the joy, confidence and happiness we hope every child takes with them as they leave Millwood House. After years of growing, learning and making lifelong friendships, seeing moments like this reminds us that childhood should always be filled with wonder.

Captured during our Class of 2026 Graduation Celebration, this magical moment came courtesy of the brilliant ⁠Mr Marvel, whose incredible entertainment had children and families laughing from beginning to end.

Congratulations, Gaavun. We couldn’t be prouder of everything you’ve achieved, and we can’t wait to see where your next adventure takes you. 💙🐘🎓

In our nursery, we use the Early Years framework and build independence through strong bonds with one familiar key person.
