Loving this playful and complex surface pattern design! 😍Geometric grids allow to easily develop a range of different elements and then arrange them into a precisely structured professional design.

The 3rd design in the set exploring framing, composition and interaction of the elements.

The original image also has a great potential for extension and restoration using the techniques from my freshly published Skillshare class 👀

A little experiment with using a border to add depth to the design + exploring the vertical movement in the composition.

Loving how this vintage hosta illustration by Pierre-Joseph Redouté (from the Jardin de la Malmaison vol. 1) looks recoloured in a monochromatic colour palette inspired by the colour of the flowers.

And now I really want to get a hosta plant for our garden! 🌱

Celebrating our 10 year online teaching anniversary this May and it’s fun to look back! Not everything we do and teach is digital 👀 Here are just a few things we’ve done in 10 years of teaching on ✨

Unlike the other two designs in this series (so far), this one took quite a bit of manual mask refinement — so maybe I should follow my own advice and not use plants with tiny details and hairy stems in my designs!😅

But it was well worth the time, as recolouring really brought this design to life! Kind of funny to say that though, bearing in mind that the contrast between the green and red in the original illustration (last slide here) was what made me want to play around with this image in the first place, but there we are.

Do you ever start working with some images and then halfway through start questioning whether it’s worth the hustle?

I fell in love with this vintage botanical illustration when I first saw it (the original print is the last image in this carousel 👀), and this was actually the first design in this series I have created!

I still love the original full colour design, but the variants recoloured with my Zesty Resurgence palette are so full of energy that I cannot decide which one is my favourite here!

Which version do you prefer?

What started as a quick exploration or typographic and shape contrast between the botanical illustrations and type, developed into exploration of the colour contrast and transforming elegant vintage-inspired designs into something vibrant and modern!

👉🏻 Check out the alternative colour variants and the original colours 👀 Which variant do you like best?
