Kuk Sool Won - Westhill Martial Arts

Kuk Sool Won - Westhill Martial Arts Martial Arts club in Westhill, Aberdeenshire As you can see, Kuk Sool Won™ covers an extensive variety of martial art techniques.
(1)

Kuk Sool Won™ is a systematic study of all of the traditional fighting arts, which together comprise the martial arts history of Korea. As a martial arts system, Kuk Sool Won™ is extremely well-organized; and seeks to integrate and explore the entire spectrum of established Asian fighting arts and body conditioning techniques, as well as mental development and traditional weapons training. The fol

lowing list includes some, but by no means all, of the elements of Kuk Sool Won™.
- Hand Techniques, Leg Techniques, Throws and Grappling, Joint Lock Techniques, Falling and Acrobatics, Body Conditioning, Animal style Techniques, Traditional Korean Weapons, Martial art Healing Methods and Meditating. But it is not merely concerned with methods of attack and defense, Kuk Sool Won™ also includes the study of healing techniques and the development of internal power, in addition to the physical training. Mental development is of equal importance in Kuk Sool Won™ and helps to instill self-confidence and self-discipline, a calm self-assurance, and the psychological and spiritual values which are traditionally associated with the character of a martial artist. Although Kuk Sool Won™ as it is practiced today is relatively new, its roots stretch far and deep to the very beginnings of the Korean people. This early history and the ancient traditions upon which this art is founded should be viewed as important as the physical techniques themselves, for it is only from the understanding and appreciation of these classical roots that one is able to grow as a student of the martial arts. We value our martial art as a family and you will always find us to be friendly and welcoming. All Instructors are certified by our HQ and PVG checked.

Today my heart is full as we celebrate 10 years of K*k Sool Won of Westhill.
What began as a dream has grown into something more special than I ever imagined — a school, a community, and a family. It has been such a privilege to watch our students grow in confidence, strength, and character over the years.
I still remember the nerves on our first class, worried about stepping out on our own, worried about no one turning up.

To every student, parent, instructor, and supporter, thank you for being part of this journey. Your trust, commitment, and support have meant the world to me and have helped make K*k Sool Won of Westhill the special place it is today.
I am so proud of all we have achieved together and so excited for the years ahead. Here’s to 10 wonderful years and many more to come.

Photos from our celebration today and from our very first class…

Our tournament and testing team from the WKSA Scottish Tournament 2026.
So proud of these guys. They showed true martial arts spirit, determination, and discipline, and they are genuinely fantastic people too.

A special mention must go to Steve McGill JKN, on winning the Grand Champion trophy. Well done, sir — you truly deserve it.

Over the weekend, our students competed in seven different disciplines, ranging from open hand forms and advanced weapons to board breaking.
This is no small feat and certainly does not happen overnight.
Hard work, dedication, and sheer determination are what win the day.

I heard a powerful mantra from my good friend at K*k Sool Won Glasgow and it rings so true:
“You don’t rise to the level of your expectations; you fall to the level of your training.”

The medals say it all. 🥇🥈🥉

Another phenomenal weekend at the WKSA Scottish Championship.
Our team were amazing as always. Not only did they test and compete, but they also brought home a fantastic 10th-place finish.
We love these weekends: great competition, great people, and great memories. That’s exactly why we do what we do!
Super proud of everyone’s dedication, spirit, and determination.
A huge thank you to all the Masters, organisers, judges, and competitors for making it another memorable tournament.
Congratulations to PJKN Karl and the Widnes Martial arts team on your 10th consecutive Scottish tournament win.🏆
More to come from the weekend...

Wednesday was an incredible day at KSW Westhill!
We had the great honour of welcoming senior masters to our dojang:
10th Dahn, SKJN Barry Harmon
9th Dahn CJN Alex Suh
7th Dahns, JDKJNs Nick Reeve and Darren Brown
We started the afternoon with focused one-on-one training, followed by a fantastic student seminar covering a wide range of topics.

The highlight of the day was receiving technique insight and guidance from a 10th degree black belt – a truly rare and inspiring experience.

A huge thank you to our visiting masters for sharing their time, knowledge, and expertise, and to all the students who trained with such respect and enthusiasm from both our school and K*k Sool Won - Inverurie Martial Arts.
Days like this remind us why we love K*k Sool Won and the journey we share together.
