We are very proud to announce that Little Learners Preschool has just successfully renewed their Millie’s Mark gaining The Gold Standard in Millie's Mark.

Millie's Mark focuses on excellence in Paediatric First Aid and we have received this award due to going above and beyond to keep children safe within our setting and having a fully qualified first aid team.

It’s World Book Day at Little Learners and the staff have gone all out!

We’ve had so much fun seeing the children’s amazing costumes, too.

We are having a wonderful time celebrating the joy of reading with all our children.

Helping children develop a love for reading is at the heart of what we do. We hope everyone has a fantastic day diving into their favorite stories!

Last week, we had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate Chinese New Year together. During our celebration, we listened attentively to the story of the Zodiac, which is a traditional tale that plays an important role in the festivities, and we talked about the unique music and vibrant decorations that are associated with Chinese celebrations. Our conversation included a discussion about the Year of the Horse, and we also had a try at practising writing our Chinese numerals, which was a fun way to learn and explore a new script. Following this, we all enjoyed a delightful session of tasting food, where we sampled some delicious Chinese dishes, including different types of rice dishes, a variety of noodles, and crackers. The children were thoroughly delighted to taste the new foods and to explore the different flavours and textures they had not experienced before, making it a truly engaging and educational experience for everyone.

Last week in celebration of Pancake Day, the children in the Preschool took part in the delightful activity of making their very own pancakes. The children showed impressive self-control as they patiently awaited their turn to add their chosen ingredients into the mixing bowl. Following this, each child had the opportunity to take turns giving the mixture a thorough stir, helping to ensure that the texture was just right for cooking. Our Preschool chef then provided guidance and assistance as we carefully cooked the pancakes on the hob, making sure each one was perfectly cooked and ready to be enjoyed. We all then had the wonderful chance to savour a tasty pancake treat together, celebrating the results of our teamwork and patience.

We had a wonderful time gathering around our preschool firepit! It wasn’t just about the gooey, toasted marshmallows (though those were a big hit)—it was a fantastic opportunity for some hands-on learning.

While we enjoyed the warmth, we practiced our essential Fire Safety rules:
✅ Learning to keep a safe distance.
✅ Understanding that only grown-ups touch the fire tools.
✅ Discussing what to do if we see smoke.

The children showed excellent listening and attention skills and shared great insight into their understanding of fire safety.

🍓 Little Chefs at Work! 🍌

Our Cookery Club was buzzing with excitement this week as the children whipped up a delicious, fresh fruit salad! 🍎🍇

This wasn't just about making a healthy snack; it was a fantastic opportunity for developing fine motor skills. Our preschoolers worked hard on mastering one-handed tools, practicing their grip and control while safely using:
✅ Child-friendly knives for slicing bananas and berries.
✅ Peelers for the apples.
✅ Scoops for the melon.

It takes a lot of focus and coordination to use these tools correctly, and we are so proud of how much their dexterity is improving! The best part? Getting to eat the colorful (and healthy!) results of their hard work.

Our weekly cooking club has been full of Scottish spirit this week as we baked yummy shortbread to celebrate Burns Night!

The children rolled up their sleeves to take charge of measuring ingredients, mixing the dough and pressing it into shape to create their very own individual shortbread treats.

But it wasn’t just about baking – we’ve been diving into Scottish culture too! We’ve explored traditional stories, Scottish music, and even shared some simple verses from Robert Burns’ poems.

Look what our creative little learners have been up to! Instead of paper and pens, we’ve been using sticks, leaves, stones and petals to build and create all kinds of shapes.

The children worked together to make triangles from long sticks, arranged smooth pebbles into perfect circles, and used colourful flower petals to form squares and rectangles. They even discovered how different natural items can be combined to make more complex shapes too.

It’s amazing how nature provides everything we need for hands-on learning. The children loved exploring texture, size and colour as they built, and were so proud of their natural masterpieces.

🐦 RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch

Our amazing preschool children have been getting stuck into the RSPB Bird Watch this week – and they’ve loved every minute of it.

Ready with our survey sheets, the children spent time in our outdoor play area carefully counting and identifying the birds visiting our garden and trees. We spotted so many feathered friends!

A huge thank you to the RSPB for organising this fantastic annual event – it’s the perfect way to get our youngest learners connected to the world around them.

This Week Our Preschoolers Have Been Exploring Their Understanding of the World Through Hands-On Exploration.

What We’ve Been Creating & Discovering

• Paint Play: We’ve used everything from brushes to natural items like leaves and twigs to make art. The children have loved exploring how different tools create different marks, and watching colours mix to make new ones. We’ve even tried our hand at creating our own textured paints.

• Water Explorations: From ice and snow explorations to wintery sensory soup with water and garden treasures, water play has helped the children learn about temperature, flow and how things change when they get wet. They’ve spent hours pouring, scooping and experimenting – building coordination and curiosity every step of the way.

•Playdough: We have been having a fantastic time experimenting with playdough – and it’s been so much more than just squishing and shaping! We’ve created a whole range of different playdough recipes, letting the children explore all sorts of textures, smells and colours.

Why We Love Hands-On Play

Sensory play is at the heart of how young children learn – and we absolutely love bringing these hands-on experiences to our setting every single day!
