The Little explorers went on a treasure hunt to the beach. On the way we looked for different shapes, we found some rectangles, triangles and circles in the same box, one child said the windmills looked like triangles in the sea and we saw the big wheel that’s a very big circle.

Once at the beach we found lots of footprints which we said looked like dinosaur prints and made our own. We drew some shapes and letters in the sand and had snack.

On our way back we looked for colours and found a yellow boat, blue fence, red tractor and lots of pretty coloured flowers, there was even a bee in the flowers collecting pollen.

Teaching the children critical thinking skills is always so rewarding to watch. They are using their brains and skills to solve their own problems, and this little boy needed to fill the pan to fill the water tray at the bottom of the garden.

He got to the sink and he already knew by looking at it that it wouldn’t fit under the tap. Nearby was loose parts including guttering and pipes.

I watched for several minutes as he tried to balance the guttering under the tap and into the pan. He moved it several times on his own as it was quite long guttering.

He turned on the tap and watched it fill up. He asked me if he should fill it to the top. I told him just a bit more.

He turned the tap off, put the guttering away then went to pick up the pan but said “I can’t move it, it’s too heavy, can you help me?
