There’s something incredibly humbling and brave about learning something new—especially as an adult. I recently started swimming lessons and it’s brought up a feeling I didn’t expect. I always thought I could swim “well enough,” but the moment I had to strip it back—use a float, focus on just my legs—I could barely move. And the hardest part? People were watching. All I wanted was to ditch the float and prove I was actually a “good swimmer.” But starting again—really starting, from the foundations—is uncomfortable. It’s slow, sometimes frustrating, and yes… humbling. Still, choosing to be a learner anyway? That’s where the growth is. So if you’re picking up art again, or trying something new and feeling a bit exposed—this is your reminder: it’s brave to not be good (yet). Here’s to letting ourselves learn, properly. 🎨If you’re ready to start (even if it feels a bit scary), my evening art course is now taking bookings for May

We love spending a relaxing couple of hours refining our figure drawing and portraiture skills by drawing a model from life. It's an excellent thing to try for beginners, as well as experienced artists. It's always handy to have someone to guide you to help you translate what you see, and give you some ideas on how to be creative in your representation of the figure too. If you fancy trying your hand at this, drop us a message and we'll let you know about any up and coming workshops!

We adore pastels! Both soft and oil pastels are amazing media for artists on the go. Soft pastels are matte, chalky and highly pigmented. Perfect for dreamy landscapes, soft billowing skies and gentle portraits. Oil pastels are a little more effort to work with but they are waterproof, colour rich, and can be layered up to create a thick opaque painterly surface worthy of Turner style impasto. There are a few tips unique to each, come and join us if you’d like to learn more!
