Over the last couple of weeks, our Animal Care students have enjoyed some fantastic trips to Chester Zoo! 🐘🦒🦩

The visits gave our learners the opportunity to observe a wide variety of species, explore modern zoo management practices and gain a greater understanding of conservation and animal welfare in action. It was a brilliant chance to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences while making some amazing memories together.

Today we celebrate a true champion of the natural world, whose voice, passion and lifelong dedication have inspired generations to care for animals, protect habitats, and cherish the incredible biodiversity of our planet.
For a century, Sir David has opened our eyes to the wonders of wildlife—from the smallest insects to the largest mammals—and reminded us that every creature matters.
From all of us at Walford animal care: thank you for inspiring compassion, curiosity and conservation. Here’s to 100 years of making the world better for animals and people alike. 💚

Today our T Level Animal Management students had a fantastic and insightful visit to the RSPCA.
The team delivered an engaging talk covering:
- Biosecurity and why it is essential in animal care settings
- Animal health and welfare standards
- Understanding animal behaviour
- The rehoming process and how animals are prepared for their forever homes

Students also had the opportunity to tour the facilities, where they saw a range of animals in the cattery, kennels, equine yard and small mammal areas.

It was a valuable experience that brought classroom learning to life and highlighted the incredible work that goes into protecting and rehoming animals.

We recently took part in an online lesson with Cats Protection, learning all about cat health and common diseases. It was a really informative session and helped us better understand how to keep our feline friends happy and healthy. Thank you to Cats Protection for sharing their knowledge! 🐱💙

Our Level 2 Animal Care students have been busy with a fantastic animal photo shoot, capturing some amazing moments while developing their handling and observation skills.

Meanwhile, our Level 1 Animal Care students got creative by making Christmas tree enrichment for our meerkats 🎄✨ — encouraging natural behaviours like exploring and foraging while adding some festive fun to their environment.

This week our students had an amazing opportunity to visit Blue Planet Aquarium and what a fantastic experience it was!

Students explored a huge variety of aquatic species, came face-to-face with sharks in the underwater tunnel and learned all about marine conservation, enclosure design and specialist husbandry techniques. 🐟🐠🐡🍤🦈
