📚 SENCOs & Senior Leaders — now is the time to think about Access Arrangements
If you’re a SENCO, Exams Officer or senior leader in a secondary school or college, September is the perfect time to start identifying your Year 10 and Year 11 students who may need Access Arrangements for their exams.
Waiting until Year 11 — or worse, until the exam season is approaching — can create unnecessary pressure for everyone.
An assessment can help establish whether a student may meet the criteria for arrangements such as:
✏️ Extra time
💻 Use of a word processor
📝 A reader or reading support
🔊 A scribe
…and other appropriate arrangements.
The key is evidence, not simply a diagnosis or a label. Students need to be assessed appropriately and arrangements must reflect their normal way of working.
