Our Reception children have been learning all about 'minibeasts' and discovering fantastic facts about worms, bees, caterpillars, butterflies and spiders; including why worms are so important for our soil and how bees are wonderful pollinators.
Last week, the children in Reception enjoyed a very informative visit to the Tropical Butterfly House, handling and learning about even more minibeasts including a cockroach and an African Land Snail. Koalas, Polars and Pandas loved the beautiful butterflies, meerkats and porcupines and all the other animals they saw on the day. A big thank you to all the parent volunteers that supported the children on a very successful visit.

Anyone else wishing it was the weekend tomorrow? We think that there may be quite a few Y4 children (and a few staff too) feeling a bit like Harold by the morning!

Yesterday, Years 5 and 6 had the wonderful opportunity to meet real life author, Bec Manser. Bec shared her journey to becoming an author, and the inspiration and thought process when writing her book, Wildheart. Children were inspired to create their own characters and plot lines for a similar story. Plus, many have bought her book and have already started to read it.

All going really well at the Y4 York residential. Children currently settling down for tea having been into York for a guided city walk, various museums and plenty of time for playing out. Breadmaking (viking style) this evening before settling down to a good night's sleep!
Lots and lots of photos to share on their return (Mrs Hardy is on the trip - there will be plenty of pictures)!!

Elimu, our very own lion cub is now proudly on display in their temporary home in the Botanical Gardens glass house. They will stay there over the summer, until Sunday 6th September. This post will be pinned to the top of our social media pages throughout this time. If you go along to say "hello", please do post a picture of you with Elimu in the comments below. There are a couple of photos already there, just to get you started.

A real "WOW moment" for these young EPS musicians. Last month they performed in a Sheffield Music Hub guitar concert, led by Ben Bartholomew. It was a fantastic evening, with the children also performing alongside older students from other schools and groups on electric guitar and vocals, which was very inspiring for them to see. A particular highlight was playing a Sheeran guitar that Ed Sheeran donated during his recent visit to Sheffield, and which he has actually played himself.

It was great to see so many EPS children (and families) at the Junior Parkrun at Millhouses Park on Sunday morning. For some, it was very much a race, for others it was challenge to get around the 2km course - everyone was certainly a winner in their own right. We really hope that the active start to a Sunday morning may become a habit for some. The legacy from our older runners is certainly encouraging younger pupils to get involved too - thank you.

Something completely different yesterday evening, as a team of our Y6 Mathematicians were invited to take part in the Westbourne School Maths Conundrum. Consisting of three rounds (quick fire, question relay and problem solving) Team EPS were crowned CHAMPIONS for 2026! Many thanks to Westbourne School for hosting the event, inviting us (and feeding hungry brains).
Just a couple of questions in the photos below to give you a taste of what they were expected to do.

Over the last couple of days EPS have been represented in three different Sheffield Schools' Football finals - a great achievement in itself to reach these events having made it through previous rounds.
On Tuesday our Y5 Boys topped their group but then lost narrowly (1-0) in the semi final to finish 4th overall. Today Y6 Boys came 8th against some very tough competition, played 5, won 1, drew 2 and lost 2. The Y5/Y6 Girls were our best placed team overall, coming in as runners up, only losing in the final 2-0 to a strong Mundella Team having won their previous 4 games.
Amazing sporting behaviours on show throughout all three tournaments from all the children representing Team EPS - well done everyone. Thanks also for the work that Mr Fretter does with the teams and for the help and support from various parents & carers.

Here is the May 2026 EPS Update, keeping everyone up to date with all the great things that the children get up to at Ecclesall. This has also been sent out to all parents and carers by email and is available for the children to read on their Google Classrooms.
