It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Chief Executive Officer, Mike Westerdale, following a courageous and brave battle with cancer.

We know that this devastating news will be felt deeply amongst everyone across our Trust and within the wider community.

Our immediate priority is to respect the privacy of Mike’s family and support our colleagues and school communities during this time of grief.

Since being appointed CEO of Brigantia Learning Trust in 2018, Mike has made a significant contribution to the development and success of our academies, and to the lives of the pupils, staff and communities we serve. We are united in our commitment to uphold these achievements and build on this legacy.

Mike will be deeply missed as a colleague, leader and friend.

We are delighted to celebrate Longley Park Sixth Form being awarded the Quality in Careers Standard Award.

This award recognises the staff's dedication to teaching and delivering quality careers education for our students.

It also celebrates the strong partnerships with employers, universities and community organisations that the students have access to, which help to support them in making decisions about their futures.

We’d like to congratulate all the colleagues involved in achieving this award at Longley Park Sixth Form.

One of the biggest myths about becoming a Trustee is that you need to arrive fully formed.

The reality?

Training, mentoring and support are all part of the journey.

Julie joined the Board with no governance experience and quickly found herself supported by fellow Trustees, Trust leaders and dedicated training opportunities.

If you've ever considered a governance role but weren't sure where to start, this could be your sign.

For Julie, one of the most rewarding aspects of becoming a Trustee has been seeing the impact of decisions firsthand.

From visiting academies across the Trust to supporting important strategic decisions, governance offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference to children's lives.

You don't have to come from education.

You don't need previous governance experience.

You just need the commitment to help young people succeed.

As we head into the summer, we're proud to share a special performance of California Dreamin', bringing together talented musicians from Yewlands Academy, Hinde House 2-16 Academy, Brigantia Hill Fort Academy and Longley Park Sixth Form.

This collaboration showcases students performing every instrumental and vocal part, celebrating the creativity, dedication and teamwork that exists across Brigantia Learning Trust. Created by our music team in partnership with Sheffield Music Hub, the project gave students the opportunity to perform together, develop their musical skills and be part of a professional-scale production.

We're incredibly proud of every student and member of staff who made this performance possible. It is a fantastic example of the opportunities our music programme creates and the impact of collaboration across our Trust.

"We're incredibly proud of our students. They have worked so hard on this project, developed their musical skills and, most importantly, had great fun creating something together." – Tom Elliott, Subject Lead for Music at Hinde House 2 – 16 Academy and Yewlands Academy.
