Avril Herng (黄愉恒) is a young international novelist, worldschooler and emerging literary voice of the Generation Alpha. At a remarkably young age, she has developed an extensive body of published work, creating the Laura Taylors literary universe while also developing illustrated editions and English-learning workbooks inspired by her stories.
A passionate worldschooler, Avril learns not only through books and classrooms, but through travel, culture, history, architecture, art and people. Her educational journey has taken her through the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.
These experiences continually become part of her creative world. Visiting historic cities, museums, theatres, libraries, landmarks and cultural institutions allows her to observe different societies and perspectives firsthand. For Avril, travelling is therefore not simply about seeing new places — it is part of how she learns, thinks, imagines and writes.
Her stories are particularly distinctive for their combination of mystery, suspense, psychological depth, philosophy, courage, truth, resilience and human relationships. Although written from the perspective of a young writer, her work encourages young readers to think beyond the surface of a story and explore questions about human nature, choices, morality, trust and the consequences of our actions.
At a young age, Avril has established herself as a prolific young novelist, with 12 ISBNs across nine published titles. Her work represents an emerging Alpha Generation perspective in literature — demonstrating that young people can be not only readers and learners, but also creators, thinkers and storytellers.
