🖊️ The famous poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’ was written by John McCrae who dedicated the poem to remembering and honouring those who had fallen in Flanders Fields.

McCrae was a military doctor. He had noticed poppies grew amongst the handmade crosses (in the graves). He incorporated this into his poem,
“In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,”

I wrote an acrostic poem in dedication of today,

Remembrance Day
Every year we are silent for two minutes
Memories of those who had fallen
Each poppy represents hope for peace
Millions died
Brave men and women who fought to protect
Everyday we are protected
Remember the animals who contributed and fallen in war

Why not try write an acrostic poem based on the words remember or poppy. ✏️

Poem taken from Poetry Foundation.

Remembrance Sunday 🪖

Today we remember military and servicemen and women from the Armed Forces who sacrificed their life to protect and serve our country and Commonwealth.

Every year, the national day is commemorated on the second Sunday in November. Traditionally, at 11am a two minutes silence is lead by His Majesty the King it is a time to remember those who had fallen. Your local church and other events may also carry out a service where you can pay your respects.

Some people wear a poppy, to show their support for the Armed Forces. The poppy symbolises the hope for peace in the feature.

Did you see fireworks this week?

How would you describe fireworks to someone who didn’t go out to see it?🎇

Fireworks spiralled into the dark, night sky. Boom! Bright, colourful sparks exploded. One set off after another, the dazzling lights reflected off people’s faces as it filled the sky. The burnt smell of firework smoke filled the air.

You might ask your child to describe the fireworks rather than write sentences.
✨Crackling sound
✨Smokey sky
✨ Thunderous boom
✨Magnificent fireworks
✨Shining spark

Give it a go, use your senses (hear 👂 , see 👀 , smell 👃 , touch 👈, taste👅) to help you create a descriptive piece.

Remember, remember, the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot;
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'Twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliament
Three score barrels of powder below
Poor old England to overthrow

By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match
Holler boys, holler boys, let the bells ring
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the King!

Guy Fawkes Day or Bonfire Night originated from 1605 in celebration of Guy Fawkes and other conspirators failure of the gunpowder plot against King James I and Parliament.

The king ordered that the day be commemorated annually to remember the failed plot. The celebration now consists of bonfires, fireworks and sparklers. 🎇

Please take care when out tonight.

Yesterday we had lots of fun celebrating Diwali. We ate lots of yummy food, watched magnificent fireworks and played with bright sparklers. 🎇

We had 7 packs of sparklers, each pack had 12 sparklers. How many sparklers did we have altogether? ✨

🔷Challenge: If there were 100 guests at the party, how many more packs would we need for everyone to have a sparkler?

Happy Diwali 🪔🎉

Diwali known as “the Festical of Lights” is one of the more important festivals for Hindus.
The story of Diwali is interpreted differently depending on the region of where Hindus are from. However, it is commonly known that the festival represents the victory of light over darkness (or good over evil).

Over the five days celebration, this includes:
🪔light and display candles and clay lamps called diyas
🫂 visit family and friends
🌸 create rangolis (colourful designs created on the floor using coloured powders/sand)
🍴have delicious feasts
🥻wear new clothes
🙏pray to Lakshmi (the Goddess of wealth)
🎆watch fireworks

Have fun over Diwali 🥳

Did you know⁉️

Halloween originates from an ancient Celtic celebration in Ireland and Scotland called Samhain. Samhain marked the end of summer. It was believed that on this day, spirits would roam the streets and enter homes. To protect themselves people would dress in scary costumes and light big bonfires to scare these spirits away. 🧟‍♂️🔥

Optimistic October🌈

"Be kind to yourself today. Remember, progress takes time."

Sometimes we want to understand things straight away but this may not always happen. It's ok to take a little longer to get there.
