Welcome back to uni HSTSOC members! We hope exam season is treating you well! We have sent out a few emails to you regarding the ongoing situation with the strikes. On Thursday the 29th of January at 12:30pm the UCU is hosting a demonstration outside of firth court. Our committee will be present so you will see many friendly faces. We hope to see you all there!

Charity film screening of ‘No Other Land’

The Sheffield Labour Students are in collaboration with Workers’ Liberty, the Jewish Society and the University of Sheffield Chaplaincy (BNBR) to screen ‘No Other Land’; the joint Israeli-Palestinian movie about Israeli apartheid in the West Bank that won an Oscar, fundraising for the joint Israeli Palestinian peace organisation Standing Together.

The screening will take place on the 9th December.

Standing Together are an organisation of Israelis and Palestinians who arose from the 2011 J14 protests in Israel and have been staunch critics of Netanyahu and Likud alongside Israeli war crimes in the West Bank and Gaza, consistently opposing the war since the Israeli response to October 7th. They have organised mass strikes and protests against the atrocities in Gaza alongside protecting international aid trucks, trying to get aid into Gaza and protecting Palestinians during the yearly ‘Jerusalem Day’ marches with their Solidarity Guard.

Present at our fundraiser we will have a video from Standing Together leadership, the movie free of charge with donations through RAG (although we would hopefully expect donations) and it will end with some people giving their thoughts and there will be a sign-up sheet for a Standing Together/Peace society which people can sign up for. This will be done with coordination from the Belief and No Belief Religious Life Centre (BNBR) and there is no funding from the Union of Jewish Students or any political organisation’.
