Fantastic results for our chemistry A-level scholars at Mercia Collegiate Sixth Form in the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad.
Earlier this year, 66 of our chemistry scholars sat Round One of the Olympiad, a challenging written paper designed to stretch understanding well beyond the A-level specification. We are incredibly proud that 46 scholars achieved a bronze, silver or gold Award.
In particular, six scholars achieved the Gold Award, placing them in the top 8.5 percent of participants nationally. An outstanding achievement.
Our gold award winners are:
• Raghav S (Year 13)
• Benjamin F (Year 12)
• Julia V (Year 12)
• Benjamin W (Year 12)
• John W (Year 12)
• Jack G (Year 12)
Five of our gold award scholars are currently in Year 12 and will have the opportunity to take part again next year, with their sights set on progressing to round two.
Well done to all scholars involved for their commitment, resilience and academic ambition.

Our very own 'SilverSprig' is complete!
Thanks to a real team effort by our talented pupils, our lion cub has left school on its travels to become part of this summer's Pride of Yorkshire sculpture trail around South Yorkshire.
A huge well done to the artists who designed and painted our cub - we're so proud of how it turned out!
Our brilliant community raised over £950 for Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS and Charity to take part in this project, and we are proud to play a small part in this huge charity fundraiser for our much-loved children's hospital.
Keep an eye out for our cub this summer when the trail begins!

The Duke of Edinburgh Award continues to be a central part of life at Mercia, and we are incredibly proud of the opportunities it provides our students. This year, 75 of our fantastic Year 10 pupils have taken on the challenge of completing their Silver DofE Award.
On 27 March, the group embarked on their practice expedition in the Peak District. Over the course of three days and two nights, students demonstrated impressive teamwork and independence as they navigated, camped, and prepared their own meals. Despite facing challenging weather conditions, including snowfall on the second day(!), the group showed outstanding resilience and determination throughout.
Every pupil was a credit to the school, and we are delighted with their achievements. Following such a successful practice expedition, we are very much looking forward to taking them on their final expedition in May.
We are also excited for the upcoming Bronze DofE expeditions at the end of the summer term, with over 120 enthusiastic Year 9 students already signed up and ready to begin their DofE journey.
