We’re really proud of Chaucer School and the first class opportunities we give to the young people in our community. With around 850 students, we believe we are the perfect size for a secondary school – large enough to have excellent facilities and specialist staffing to support every ambition, but small enough so that no child slips through the net – we know all our students. Each student is unique and precious to us, and is equally valued for their culture and contribution. Our positive reputation for achievement in all forms, for our ambitions for students, and for working with students and families, is well established. Our first class pastoral care was recently described as ‘inspirational’ by a national leader of education. High expectations are instilled in all our students from the start of their time here at Chaucer School, around the key values of respect, responsibility and kindness. Every student can expect to have a consistent tutor to check in with every day, and who is the first point of contact for any issues that might arise. Students can also expect a specialist team of teachers to lead their academic progress. All students also have a dedicated Year Leader and Engagement Leader, who they can expect to know well, and rely upon for help and support when needed, as well as challenge and drive to aspire to the best version of themselves. That ‘Support For Success’ team are always available during the school day to ensure that students are achieving their best. We’re proud that every child has a range of connected and trusted adults to help guide their development into confident and successful young adults. Parental support for Chaucer is extremely important to us, and close partnerships between parents and staff work to help and guide students to healthy, successful lives. These strong relationships, along with our very positive school ethos, enable Chaucer students to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. We aim to lead a growing legacy of respect, responsibility and kindness that spreads across our community as our young people move through each stage of their lives. Chaucer School is a member of the Tapton School Academy Trust, and we wholly support the trust mission for all schools to provide a safe place to be, provide great teaching and learning, and create an environment where all opportunities are within reach. We’re strong supporters of the Trust belief that we are ‘Better Together,’ and genuinely benefit from close partnership with other schools in the Trust. We work closely with our local family of primary schools: Meynell, Southey Green, Parson Cross and Hillsborough. Dear Parent/Carer, Important Water Safety Notice With several schools in our area located near bodies of water, we're reaching out to partner with you in protecting children's safety. Whether during winter when ice forms or in warmer months when swimming seems inviting, bodies of open water can pose serious risks to young people. We kindly ask all parents/carers to have a crucial conversation with their children about water safety. Please discuss the following safety information with your family to help prevent accidents and ensure everyone stays safe around water throughout the year.
· Attempting to walk on frozen lakes, canals and reservoirs is dangerous and can be fatal.
· Whilst it may be tempting to walk on frozen water, the ice could be unstable and can easily break.
· The temperature of the water is so cold that it can take your breath away which can lead to panic and result in drowning.
· Even during the summer months, water is still cold beneath the surface so entering the water can result in cold water shock.
· The RNLI's "Float to Live" advice is to resist the instinct to swim hard to safety if you find yourself unexpectedly in the water. Instead, lean back, extend your arms and legs, and float. Tilt your head back with ears submerged, relax, and control your breathing. Use your hands to help you stay afloat and call for help or swim to safety if possible. Looking for things to keep your children active and engaged over the holidays?
Sheffield Healthy Holidays offers a wide range of free activities for children and young people across the city, including sport, arts, cooking, music and more.
Activities are free for eligible families with a HAF code, and there are sessions running in many local areas across Sheffield.
Sessions include fun activities combined with healthy meals, helping children stay active, build confidence and try something new during the school holidays.
Mercia Northridge School opens September 2026 as part of Mercia Learning Trust. This brings a focus on high standards and strong outcomes for every pupil.

We were delighted to welcome so many Year 6 students and their families last night. It was a pleasure to give everyone a first glimpse of the journey that awaits them when they join us as Year 7s this September.
We were very proud to launch Mercia Northridge School, providing exceptional opportunities for every child to succeed. We are ambitious for all children and will push them to achieve more than they believe they can, through an academic curriculum and high expectations. Our future Year 7s have so much to look forward to.
This is a truly exciting moment for our school community and we cannot wait to welcome our newest cohort in September.
