𝐍𝐕𝐐 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲?

When you're completing an NVQ, evidence isn't always about taking photos or writing things down yourself.

Someone who has seen you carrying out your work may be able to provide a witness testimony describing what they observed.

A useful witness testimony should be specific to the work they actually saw you carry out — including the skills or activities they observed.

💡 Top tip: Speak to your assessor about who may be suitable to provide a witness testimony and what information is needed.

NVQ Tips 📸 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞

Photos can be a useful way of recording the work you're carrying out during your NVQ — but think about what the photo actually demonstrates.

A few simple things can make your photos more useful:

🔹Make sure the work can be seen clearly
🔹 Capture different stages where appropriate
🔹 Include relevant detail
🔹 Give the photo context
🔹 Keep a note of what the photo shows

Top tip: Don't photograph everything just for the sake of it. Speak to your assessor about the evidence that's relevant to your qualification and what you need to demonstrate.

𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲'𝐬 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞. 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰'𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐫.

It's not a slogan — it's how it actually works. Many of the most experienced professionals in construction, fenestration, and the trades started exactly where you might be starting now: learning on the job, building skills, earning a qualification.

GQA offers over 80 construction-related qualifications from Level 1 through to Level 7. Whether you're just starting out or looking to progress, there's a pathway designed for where you are and where you want to go.

Many also lead to CSCS cards — essential for site access.

𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬? 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦?

Years on the job can give you something incredibly valuable — real-world skills, knowledge and experience.

But a recognised vocational qualification gives you something different.

It provides evidence that your competence has been assessed against an agreed standard.

Put the two together and you've got a powerful combination:
Experience builds real-world skills and knowledge.
A qualification formally recognises what you can do.
Together, they can help demonstrate your competence as your career develops.

Top tip: Don't just collect everything. Speak to your assessor about what's relevant to your qualification and the skills you need to demonstrate.
