Kick off Black History Month in your classroom!
⚽🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Introduce your pupils to Andrew Watson, Scotland’s first Black international football player, with engaging lesson materials, comprehension tasks, and discussion prompts on equality, diversity, and inclusion in sport. These resources were made in collaoration with the Scottish FA.

🐙 World Octopus Day - 8th of October 🐙

Strengthen the connection with nature and boost creativity through our Octopus Craft Using Natural Materials. Children can dive into a world of imagination as they craft their own octopus using leaves, twigs, pine cones and more!

Here are some ideas to add challenge and depth to your octopus creation:

🐙 Display pictures of different octopus species to inspire creativity.
🐙 Once finished, if using a tray, add water to the sea creature and explore which loose parts sink or float. This also offers a chance to discuss the habitat of an octopus.
🐙 Challenge children to create an octopus using only outdoor or indoor loose parts.
🐙 Ask the children: “Can you make the tentacles of your octopus into a pattern?”.
🐙 Can this lead to creating other animals using loose parts?

What is Dyslexia?
It's Dyslexia Awareness Week, but what is Dyslexia, and what might it look like for our learners?
Let's start with the strengths:
💪 Dyslexic people can be excellent problem solvers
💪 Dyslexic people are often highly creative
💪 Dyslexic people can be brilliant musicians or artists
💪 Dyslexic people are often able to think outside the box and see the bigger picture
Now let's think about some things that Dyslexic people may find difficult:
🤝 reading, taking in information and processing it
🤝 remembering instructions, particularly those with multiple parts
🤝 recognising numbers, letters or symbols
🤝 organisation

It's important to remember that this list doesn't apply to every Dyslexic person. Everyone is different and will have different needs.
