It is that time of year again when the "two months off" debate rears its head on social media and the morning radio phone-ins. 🙄📻

To anyone outside of education, the summer break looks like a luxury.

But we know the reality. We know about the teachers who are already back in their classrooms prepping by mid-August. We know about the evenings spent marking, the weekends lost to cross-curricular planning, and the fact that a "lunch hour" usually involves inhaling a sandwich while breaking up a corridor dispute.

As so many of you have rightly pointed out this week, the summer holidays are hard-earned by all those unseen, extra hours put in during term time.

If you see those posts today, cut out the noise. Find some radio silence, protect your peace, and enjoy every single second of the rest you have earned.

Who else makes a massively unrealistic to-do list on the last day of term, only to realise by August that absolute rest is the only thing they actually need to do? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

During the school year, we are so used to running on adrenaline and strict timetables that we often try to treat our summer holidays the exact same way. We plan to paint the fence, organise every cupboard, and read ten books.

If your to-do list is currently gathering dust, LET IT!

Your only real job right now is recovering from the relentless pace of the academic year. The cupboards can wait.
