Fab 5 - 5 Ways to Wellbeing is one of the many types of Multiply Sheffield workshops. It looks at the 5 steps people can take to improve their mental health and wellbeing. and includes the numeracy elements of time diaries, food diaries and the rating of mood.

Our learner Zeinab has taken part in a Fab 5 workshop and said:
"We learned it’s important for our well-being to take notice of things around us and I enjoyed looking at leaves and shells to see shapes and patterns in nature, seeing spirals, rows, lines and stripes and symmetry. When I went home I noticed many patterns around me and took some photos which I shared with the rest of the group." Two of her photographs are in the graphic for this post.

It's Neurodiversity Week this week. A time to celebrate different minds. It aims to transform how neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported by providing schools, universities, organisations, and others around the world with the opportunity to recognise the many skills and talents of neurodivergent individuals, while creating more inclusive and equitable cultures that celebrate differences and empower every individual.

When we hear about neurodiversity, it is often linked to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, bipolarity and learning disabilities. However, neurodiversity is more than a way of describing specific neurological conditions. As Autistic UK helpfully explains:

“Neurodiversity is an essential form of human diversity. The idea that there is one ‘normal’ or ‘healthy’ type of brain or mind, or one ‘right’ style of neurocognitive functioning, is no more valid than the idea that there is one ‘normal’ or ‘right’ gender, race or culture.”

Neurodiversity is about accepting all types of neurological functioning as differences, not weaknesses or something to be ‘cured’.
