On the 1st February 2025, the first application of the Labourer card ‘‘lifespan” reduced from 5 years to 2 years. This applies to all cards requested from the 1st Feb onwards, regardless of the course date.

Workers who continue to be employed as Labourers at the time the card reaches the expiry date will be able to renew the card for a further 5 years but must provide evidence that they are employed in a labouring role.

From February 2025, there will be a significant change to the CSCS card for Labourers.

As of the 1st February 2025, on the first application the Labourer card ‘‘lifespan” will reduce from 5 years to 2 years. This applies to all cards requested from the 1st Feb onwards, regardless of the course date.

Workers who continue to be employed as Labourers at the time the card reaches the expiry date will be able to renew the card for a further 5 years but must provide evidence that they are employed in a labouring role.

To assist and reduce the burden on individuals, the Health and Safety test used for the initial application only will now be valid for 3 years from the completion date allowing it to be used as part of the renewal process.

As part of a renewal application, CSCS require individuals to provide evidence of employment as a Labourer. The evidence required must be to provide one of the following:

A fully completed GQA 348 template. This must be completed by the learner and provided with the application to GQA.

OR

A letter on company headed paper from the Employer (or from the Main Contractor for self-employed individuals)

Please note, that this is not a change introduced by, or restricted to, GQA’s Labourer card, it applies to all CSCS Alliance Members, including direct applications made to CSCS.

Glass, Glazing and Fenestration

The Glass and Fenestration Industries are among the oldest in the world, steeped in history and dating back 1,000s of years.

Glass surrounds us – in buildings as part of the vast range of Fenestration products manufactured throughout the world to suit modern architectural design, and of course in domestic applications too. The glass industry is not only integral to the Fenestration industry but covers the manufacture of flat glass, container glass, domestic glass, decorative glass, automotive and specialist areas such as fire-resistant glazing.

GQA Qualifications has over 20 industry relevant qualifications in these sectors underpinning its journey to achieve Quality through Qualifications. Over the past year, our most issued fenestration qualification was the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Fenestration Installation.

We have 48 Approved centres across England and Northern Ireland that deliver this qualification, to find your nearest centre visit our website: https://ow.ly/YGIB50UOsg4

Print is believed to be the UK’s fifth largest manufacturing industry and provides work for almost 150,000 employees.

The past 20 years have seen enormous changes with the introduction of digital technology impacting the wide range of print production processes in use and contributing to the changes in the range of jobs the print industry now has to offer. Working with Proskills and industry experts, GQA developed the current range of qualifications available to the Print industry, offering the full range of qualifications available, at Levels 2, 3 and 4.

Our most popular qualification is the GQA Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Print Working Environment, This qualification is aimed at individuals wishing to gain in-depth knowledge of the requirements of working safely and effectively in the print production or administration working environment, and is particularly suited to individuals undertaking an Advanced Apprenticeship in the print industry.

January is always a great time to reflect on the previous year. In 2024 we issued an amazing 46922 qualifications. None of this would have been possible without the incredibly hard-working staff at GQA.

During 2025 we will continue to work within our existing 17 specialist sectors to increase the number of qualified and skilled workers whilst also expanding into new exciting ones.
