Why I choose one blonding technique over another… 👀
(It’s not random, and it’s definitely not just preference)

One of the biggest shifts for me in my career…
was understanding why I was choosing a technique, not just copying one.

Because balayage and foilyage?
Create completely different results

✨ Foilyage (powder lightener in foils)
When I want maximum lift and higher impact blonding

Using Wella BlondorPlex 9 is my favourite

⭐️The foil holds heat
⭐️Keeps the lightener active for longer
⭐️Pushes through to a cleaner, lighter result

Perfect when my client wants to feel really blonde or we need to lift through depth.

⭐️Freehand balayage (clay lightener in open air)
When I want softness, movement, and a more lived-in finish

Using Wella Freelights
⭐️Develops in open air
⭐️Creates a cast on the outside to control lift
⭐️Gives a softer, more diffused result

Perfect for those sun-kissed, lower maintenance blondes

But here’s the part most people miss…

It’s not about the technique.
It’s about the result you’re trying to create.

👉 How light do you need to go?
👉 How much impact vs softness?
👉 How do you want it to grow out?

That’s what should be driving your choice.

Which one do you naturally reach for, freehand or foils? 👇

Everything changed when I stopped focusing on what to do… and started understanding why I was doing it.

Why that section.
Why that placement.
Why that tone.

Not just following a technique, but actually making decisions based on the hair in front of me.

That’s when my colour work started to feel different.

Softer.
More intentional.
And most importantly… it lasted.

Because if I’m honest, if it only looks good on day one, it’s not really lived-in.

Understanding the why gave me so much more freedom behind the chair.

Less guessing. More confidence.

And that changes everything ❤️

From dark, dense and flat to a lighter, softer multi-dimensional brunette 🤎

✨ The best blondes aren’t created in one appointment.

The first session is about balancing the canvas, correcting previous work, softening and creating a blend that sets the hair up properly.

But the second appointment? 😍
That’s where we refine, build depth and actually move towards the desired end result.

We all love a transformation, but real blonde work isn’t rushed.
Healthy, seamless colour is a process, not a miracle! The hair will always thank you for it 🤍

Trust the plan. Enjoy the process.

Flat, dull blonde isn’t always a toning issue. 👀

This client already had blonde in the hair, but it lacked brightness and dimension.
The issue wasn’t the colour choice alone is was because the blonde hadn’t been lifted light enough and the placement wasn’t supporting the end result.

By lifting to the correct level and refining the placement, we were able to create a brighter, more blended blonde that reflects light instead of absorbing it.

✔ Correct lift
✔ Intentional placement
✔ Balanced dimension

Before adding more blonde, always ask yourself-
Is it really the tone… or is it the lift and placement?

Save this for the next time a blonde feels flat 🤍

Are you choosing your toner before your bleach has finished developing?

Here’s why I wouldn’t 👇🏻

To get the best result from your toner, you first need to clearly identify the level of lift you’ve achieved. This is such an important step, and one that’s easy to rush.

Why?

Because toners work by either enhancing or neutralising the warmth that’s been exposed during lightening. Until the bleach has fully developed, you don’t truly know what you’re working with.

If you choose your toner too early, you’re essentially guessing and may have an unpredictable result.

The lighter the level, the more delicate the tone becomes and at higher levels, small tonal shifts make a big difference to the final result.

Lift first.
Assess the level and warmth.
Then choose your toner with intention.

Toner choice should be reactive, not pre-planned.

Save this for your next blonde appointment 🤍
