It is wonderful to see The Prep buzzing with energy once again today, with the playgrounds full of happy chatter as friends catch up after the summer break. The day began with form time, giving pupils the opportunity to settle into their new classrooms, meet their teachers and become familiar with new routines before morning assembly.

During assembly, Mr Harrison welcomed back Prep and Mrs Arnett welcomed back Pre-Prep. They spoke about the importance of living by our Way of Life and building positive relationships with one another, providing a focus for the term ahead.

A particularly warm welcome goes to all our new pupils, families and members of staff joining our community this year. We hope you enjoy your first day and that you already feel part of life at The Prep.

From smart uniforms and shiny new shoes to stories of summer adventures, our pupils arrived ready for the term ahead. We look forward to seeing them embrace new opportunities, friendships and achievements as we continue shaping pupils' stories.

From maintaining our beautiful grounds to completing a host of improvement projects, our marvellous Grounds Team have been busy over the summer preparing The Prep for the new academic year.

Among the most visible changes are our newly painted pavilion and the makeover of the Kindergarten and Reception playground, which now has a fantastic new astroturf surface for our younger pupils to enjoy. These are just some of the many ways the team has been helping to keep our school looking its very best.

We'd like to thank the team for all their hard work in keeping The Prep looking so beautiful and ensuring everything is ready for another exciting year ahead.

We hope you have all had a fantastic summer.

We are back at school and are busy preparing for the start of another exciting year at The Prep. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone on Thursday, whether you are moving up to a new year group or joining us for the very first time.

A new school year brings fresh opportunities to learn, explore, create, grow and make lasting friendships. We are ready, the classrooms are ready and, with so much planned for the term ahead, there is plenty to look forward to.

The only thing missing now is our amazing pupils and we can't wait to see you all back at school.

We wish our Year 6 and 8 pupils lots of luck as they settle into their new schools. They secured places at a fantastic range of secondary schools, with many awarded scholarships, and we could not be prouder of them all. Although we will miss them, we know that they go on confident, well prepared and ready to make their mark - and we are certain they will thrive and make valuable contributions within their new communities and look forward to hearing their news.

At the same time, we look forward to welcoming back our senior pupils in Years 7 and 8 as they take on their new roles and responsibilities at the top of the school. They play an important part in school life and we are excited to see them embrace the year ahead and to celebrate their successes and achievements.

We are excited to welcome Erika Cross to The Prep as our new Senior Deputy Head (Academic and Enrichment, Years 3-8).

Erika joins us from King's School Rochester, where she most recently served as Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning, having previously been Academic Deputy Head. During her time there, she led several whole-school initiatives, including the introduction of the King's Diploma and a Learning to Learn programme designed to foster pupils' independence, resilience and metacognitive skills. She also brings extensive experience in curriculum review, assessment and reporting.

Erika says: “I believe that an outstanding education is rooted in academic excellence and a genuine love of learning. Through a combination of high expectations in the classroom and rich co-curricular opportunities beyond it, we can nurture curious, confident and compassionate young people who are encouraged, supported and challenged to achieve their full potential. My leadership style is approachable, inclusive and collaborative, and I value the strong relationships that sit at the heart of a successful school community. I am committed to working closely with pupils, parents and colleagues to ensure that everyone feels valued and supported, while maintaining a shared focus on reflection, growth and continuous improvement.”

Erika was particularly drawn to The Prep's commitment to creating happy, well-rounded pupils and was impressed by the way the Sevenoaks Prep Way of Life is embraced by staff and children alike. She is looking forward to becoming part of the school community, building on its many strengths and contributing fresh ideas, energy and perspective.

Luke Harrison, Head, commented: "Throughout the interview process, we were hugely impressed by Erika's warmth, professional expertise and clarity of vision. She brings a wealth of experience, a deep understanding of teaching and learning and a strong ambition to build on the academic and enrichment foundations already in place at The Prep."

We very much look forward to welcoming Erika to The Prep in September.

We are delighted to welcome Anna Arnett to The Prep as our new Head of Pre-Prep and Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Anna joins us from a primary school in Surrey, where she was Headteacher. During her headship, she has led significant whole-school improvement, strengthening teaching and learning, developing staff and ensuring that excellent pastoral care sits alongside high academic expectations. Most recently, her school achieved an Outstanding judgement in all areas from OFSTED, reflecting the quality, clarity and consistency of her leadership. She also brings with her deep knowledge in the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, alongside a thorough understanding of the full primary journey.

Anna says: "I am passionate about helping every child to flourish both academically and personally. I believe that school should be a place where children develop curiosity, confidence, resilience and a love of learning, supported by strong relationships and exceptional pastoral care."

Anna was particularly struck by the warmth of the Sevenoaks Prep community and the way pupils and staff truly live the School's values. She is excited to join such a caring and ambitious school, to build on its many strengths and working in partnership with colleagues and families to ensure every child is encouraged to become the very best version of themselves.

Luke Harrison, Head, commented "What stood out throughout the appointment process was Anna's clear understanding of what makes Sevenoaks Prep such a special place. She spoke passionately about nurturing confident, curious and happy young learners, while ensuring that high-quality teaching, purposeful curriculum design and strong staff development remain at the heart of Pre-Prep life. We were particularly impressed by her desire to provide strategic leadership while remaining highly visible, engaged and hands-on.”

We are delighted that Anna will be joining us in September.
