📣📣📣 BIG NEWS - WE’RE NOW A TEAM OF SEVEN 📣📣📣

🚗 MEET JIM. OUR NEW INSTRUCTOR. AND APPARENTLY, A WALKING DAD-JOKE ENCYCLOPAEDIA. 🏍️

Every now and then, someone comes along who makes you think, “Yep. This is going to be a good addition to the team.”

And then, every now and then, someone comes along who makes you think, “Oh dear. We’re going to need a bigger supply of eye-rolls.”

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Jim! 👏

Jim brings a wealth of experience to the team, both behind the wheel and out in the big, wide world beyond it. He shares our philosophy that learning to drive should be about more than just clutch control, mirror checks and trying not to mount the kerb outside the test centre.

It should be fun. It should build confidence. And it should leave you feeling like you’ve learned something, rather than aged approximately 14 years in a 2 hour lesson.

Jim is always looking to improve. His lessons, his teaching methods, his approach to helping learners become safer, more confident drivers… all constantly evolving.

His jokes, however, remain stubbornly stuck in first gear. 😂

Some of you may recognise Jim from our previous adventures, when he joined us on our motorcycle trip across Europe. Yes, Jim is a fellow motorcyclist, which means he’s perfectly comfortable navigating hairpin bends, unpredictable traffic and questionable road surfaces.

What we didn’t fully appreciate at the time was that we were also travelling with a man whose supply of Dad jokes could probably have powered the entire European electricity grid.

Jim has more Dad jokes than you can shake a stick at. In fact, rumour has it he has a separate catalogue for each of his 74 children.

Now, Jim insists he only has five.

But let’s be honest… once you get past two, you may as well have 74. 🤷‍♂️

It’s a gift. A questionable one, perhaps, but a gift nonetheless.

In all seriousness, we’re absolutely delighted to have Jim on board. He brings experience, enthusiasm, a genuine desire to keep improving and the kind of personality that makes learning a more enjoyable experience.

We’re pretty sure our learners are going to love him.

Whether they’ll love his jokes quite as much remains to be seen.

Here’s to great lessons, confident drivers, adventures on two wheels, and absolutely no improvement whatsoever in the quality of the Dad jokes.

🚙FIRST TIME PASS IN YORK!🚙

A massive congratulations to Jack, who passed his driving test in York today at the first attempt.

Jack has always given 100% in his lessons, and today all that hard work paid off.

One of Jack’s biggest challenges was finding enough room in my car for his height! 😂 And as for me sitting behind him on his test… there was absolutely no chance! 🤣

On the outside, Jack looked cool, calm and collected, and nothing was going to stop him achieving his goal today. He kept his composure and got the result he deserved.

Well done, Jack, enjoy the freedom and independence that comes with passing your test. You’ve earned it! 🚙

🚗🧤 CLEAN SHEET FOR LYLA! 🧤🚗

Lyla passed her driving test on Saturday, FIRST TIME. No replays, no penalties, no VAR. Well… almost. 😂

As a goalkeeper, she’s clearly hard as nails. What sort of person looks at a ball and thinks, “Go on then, kick that straight at me”? 🚩

Occasionally she’d turn up to lessons wearing brands intimidating enough to make the hardest hooligan cross the road. Just ensuring her instructor stayed in his lane. Obvs. 😎

Jokes aside, Lyla has been an absolute breeze. Determined to be the best, even when her chosen career has left her injured. Kids, remember: exercise is bad for you! 😂

She laughed at my rubbish jokes, even when she WAS the punchline. A top sport and a top driver.

Would’ve been a clean sheet, too, if she hadn’t decided to fix parking that didn’t need fixing. You wouldn’t retake a penalty because your save wasn’t stylish enough, would you? Actually, perfectionist Lyla probably would. 🤦‍♂️😂

First-time pass, superb 🥳🚗. Drive safe, mate.

PS. Thanks for my gift. I don’t do this job for gifts, I do it for the joy on your face when you realise your goal but I’m very grateful.

🚗💥 BRODY HAS ONLY GONE AND PASSED FIRST TIME IN YORK! 💥🚗

Having taught Brody’s entire extended family, with each one getting progressively more insulting than the last, I was obviously delighted to be asked to teach Brody. What could possibly go wrong? 😂

His cousins and sister are, of course, all far superior drivers… according to them anyway! Brody was the underdog of the family, the one they all expected to need a little extra polishing. 🤣

Then Mum booked his test for 7:13am. At that point, our friendship ended. An alarm beginning with a 5 is no way to start a day, never mind a working relationship! 🤬😂

Brody is a man of few words, but when he does speak, it’s usually a wisecrack, insult or sarcastic comment. His timekeeping is equally impressive, regularly waking up approximately 37 seconds before his lesson. ⏰🤣

Joking aside, Brody has been an absolute pleasure to teach, and a massive shout-out to Mum for all the extra practice and support along the way. 👏❤️ It’s been a real team effort, and we couldn’t have done it without you!

Today, Brody went out in York and got the job done… I might need a lie-down after that early start, but it was worth every second!

Now then… 👀 WHO’S NEXT IN THE FAMILY? Am I waiting for little sister to take her turn, or is it Dad’s time to see if he can handle being in the hot seat? 😂🚗

Wow! We’ve had quite the couple of weeks with test passes!!

Congratulations to all.

This now means we’ve got lots of availability for lessons. Details on the website: Www.ohsavvy.co.uk

We’ve got weekday slots for manual lessons, weekends for manual semi-intensive courses, and AUTO semi-intensive courses on Tuesday or Friday.

Please get in touch if you’re interested. It’s really helpful to include a phone number, location, theory status and any experience you may have.

Most of the availability is for the Selby area but if you’re in Goole, we also have a couple of options so please get in touch and we’ll help if we can.

🚙 ANOTHER PASS IN YORK THIS MORNING! 🚙

Huge congratulations to Ewan on passing his driving test today.

Ewan had a seriously tough drive, with just about every hazard imaginable thrown at him on practically every road. But he kept it together, stayed focused and absolutely smashed it.

Before the test, Ewan confidently told me he wasn’t nervous at all. Then came the first question… “Read that number, Ewan!” Suddenly, the nerves kicked in!

For the next 30 minutes, we had a classic case of Trembling Left Leg Syndrome! but Ewan battled through it, kept his concentration and crossed the finish line with flying colours.

Proof that you don’t have to feel completely relaxed to be a great driver. You just have to keep going when the pressure is on!

Well done, Ewan, a fantastic result and thoroughly deserved!

Enjoy your steak tonight, Ewan🤞🏻and good luck with the car negotiations! 🚙🤝 Hopefully you’ll be behind the wheel of your own set of wheels before you know it! 😉

🍕🍔 ARCHIE PASSED HIS TEST FIRST TIME YESTERDAY IN YORK 🚗

Apparently, amongst all the eating, Archie also managed to learn how to drive.

Who knew?

Archie completed a semi-intensive course with me, which meant five hours at a time in the car. Five hours.

And yet, somehow, the most impressive thing about the entire experience wasn’t his driving. It was the food.

Now, Archie is a fairly slight chap.

The sort of bloke you’d look at and think, “He probably doesn’t eat that much.”

😂😂😂 Wrong.

Spectacularly, magnificently, almost scientifically wrong.

The amount of food this lad can put away is genuinely breathtaking.

Pizzas the size of a small African country. 🍕
Burgers the size of the moon. 🍔🌕
Meals that looked less like dinner and more like an attempt to feed an entire football squad.

And then came Dope Burger.

You have eaten burgers. You have experienced burgers.

But this particular burger was, quite frankly, the finest burger known to man.

A thing of such majesty that if Michelangelo had been presented with one, he’d have put down the chisel and said, “You know what? I’m done. That’s art.”

Archie, naturally, demolished it.

At this point I’m fairly certain he wasn’t actually completing a driving course.

He was simply eating his way through Yorkshire, with the driving being an elaborate side quest.

Like some sort of Hungry Caterpillar with a provisional licence, Archie has munched his way from one end of the county to the other.

And now, having finally eaten his way through Yorkshire, he has somehow also acquired the ability to drive.

Which means he is now free to travel the length and breadth of the country at his own will.

I assume this will be used responsibly.

By which I mean he’ll drive somewhere he’s never been, find the biggest burger they sell, eat it, and then move on to the next county.

Congratulations Archie. First attempt. 🚗👏

Another 1st time pass with ZERO faults this time for Ava in Walton 🎉

Ava is one of the most organised, conscientious, consistent pupils I’ve ever had the pleasure of teaching, so when she tells me on the way to her test she didn’t have her glasses 😮 well I was speechless (and we all know that doesn’t happen often) 😊

So after a quick call to her Dad and him activating super dad mode 🚗 💨 😂 the glasses arrived 3 minutes before the test was due to start 😂 and off she went cool as a cucumber 😊

I must say if I was a betting women, before the test I would have said this girl could produce a ZERO fault pass and she didn’t let me down, she drove exceptionally well with fabulous comments from the examiner.

Thank you Ava for the days drama 😰 😂 it’s been an absolute pleasure teaching you and I wish you all the luck for the future.

And finally… Jaden!

Well, that’s the hat-trick complete! 🚙

After Sam and Josh both passed their tests, it was Jaden’s turn, and he only went and passed first time in York as well!

The three lads go to college together and are good mates, so it’s fair to say they’ve had a pretty successful week! Three mates, three tests and three passes. 🥳

Massive congratulations Jaden, brilliant job mate! Enjoy the freedom and stay safe on the roads! And remember what’s said in the car stays in the car 😉
