Year 6 - Class of 2026!
Today, we say a fond farewell to our Year 6 pupils as they move on to their secondary schools. They have been a friendly and enthusiastic cohort throughout their time at Sedbergh Primary School, and it has been a pleasure to watch them grow in confidence and maturity. They shared wonderful memories in their Leavers’ Assembly yesterday, and did themselves proud with their confident performance. We wish them every success and happiness as they move on to the next stage of their educational journey.

We had a wonderful morning yesterday, celebrating our OPAL Gold Award, with a special assembly and stay and play session - thank you to the families who joined us.

The GOLD award places Sedbergh Primary School in the top 5% of schools nationally for the quality of play we offer. Our award letter from OPAL states, "This award means that every child has an amazing playtime every day. It also means that play is taken seriously at the school and is given appropriate leadership, planning, evaluation and resources. Playtimes at Sedbergh are inclusive, joyful and provide a wonderful variety of types of play."

Thank you to parents, families and the wider community for all of your help with sourcing resources and supporting our OPAL journey.

On Tuesday, Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a fantastic interactive workshop delivered by the Landscape Stories project at Liverpool University. They learnt about the job of being a landscape architect, the important role of female landscape architects of the past and the impact that trees have in our environment. We enjoyed a lovely walk to the Community Orchard, identifying trees as we went and then spent some time sketching and painting them. Finally, back in the classroom, the children then made a perspective model : a tunnel landscape. Many thanks must go to Joy Burgess for the organisation of the day and her colleague Laura Sanderson.

What a wonderful celebration of creativity! 🎨✨

On Friday, we were delighted to welcome families to our very special art exhibition, inspired by *The Lost Words* by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris.

Every piece of artwork on display was created by our children, from Nursery right through to Year 6. The exhibition showcased not only incredible artistic talent but also the power of collaboration, with some pieces created by mixed-year groups. It was wonderful to see our older children working alongside younger pupils, sharing ideas, encouraging one another, and enjoying the creative process together.

The exhibition truly brought to life the beauty of nature, language, and imagination that inspired *The Lost Words*, and we are immensely proud of every child who contributed.

A huge thank you to Sally Davies for all her hard work, dedication, and creativity in bringing the exhibition together. We are also incredibly grateful to our PTFA for running the café and helping to make the event an enjoyable experience for everyone who attended.

Thank you to all our families and visitors for supporting the children and celebrating their achievements with us.

Early Years had a fantastic Pirate Dress-Up day and impressed with their amazing costumes. Everyone looked incredible and enjoyed lots of pirate fun and adventure! We walked the plank over ‘shark-infested’ waters, dug for treasure in the sand, decorated pirate cakes and created maps to help find lost treasure. We also enjoyed pirate games, including musical statues and corners and had a ship-shape time throughout the day! In the afternoon, we listened carefully to clues and worked together during a pirate treasure hunt. How exciting it was when we found the treasure! Everyone really got into their pirate roles with pirate singing and dancing too. What an action-packed day we had — ahoy, mateys!
