This half term, in Chill Out Chimps, we have loved reading 'Dear Zoo.' We were excited to turn the pages of the board book one at a time and lifted the flaps to find which animals were hiding behind them! We listened really carefully to the story and joined in with the animal names and sounds. We even filled in key words ourselves! We used our fine motor skills to post the animal log slices into a box with a slot in the top. We persevered when we couldn't do it first time. Some of the animals needed help to be rescued when they got stuck to the table! It was a little tricky trying to peel the tape off but we did it! We enjoyed the sensory experience of exploring the paint to make our lion picture. We followed simple instructions to use the paint dabbers, creating lots of yellow and orange dots for the lion's mane!

This term in Chill Out Chipmunks in Seaton Delaval, we have been busy celebrating Easter! At the beginning of the term, we were engaged with our "Someone Special" cards and gifting these to those who matter to us. With the run up to Easter we focused on the book "The Rhyming Rabbit" and even made our own Easter bunny biscuits for the children to enjoy! With our Chill Out Chinchillas, we used our fine motor skills to create and decorate our own Easter wreaths.

We hope all of the children have a lovely Easter holidays and we look forward to seeing you back on Monday 20th April!
Happy Easter!

Our core focus in our Chill Out Chimps room this term has been learning nursery rhymes, 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star ' and 'Incy Wincy Spider.' We hung various stars around the room for the children to use their senses to explore. They loved investigating our moon and star fabrics, star finger puppets and nursery rhyme books. We also made our very own night sky to hang over our cosy den, using a black bed sheet, white paint and some star cookie cutters! The children were engrossed in our Incy Wincy Spider water play, scooping spiders using spoons and washing them down the spout! We've learned actions to the songs and also new vocabulary, "star" and "spider." We made our own spiders using play dough and pipe cleaners. Thè children used their fine motor skills to try to roll a ball shape for the spider's body, then to poke pipe cleaners legs into the dough, counting them as they did so! Following on from this, we celebrated World Book Day. We introduced various other nursery rhyme books, providing more opportunities to extend the children's language and communication. Lastly, the children have been investigating our Easter tree, hanging decorations and opening the eggs to find objects inside. They also used their fine manipulative skills and hand eye coordination, to post the eggs down tubes and balance them on top too!

Happy Easter everyone!

This half term, in our Chill Out Chimps room at Seaton Delaval, we have loved sharing animal stories, particularly Dear Zoo, Where's Bear? and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? The children have joined in with anima sounds, names and some repeated phrases in the books. The children were very engaged when exploring the Bear paw pri ts on the floor. They practised gross motor skills, walking, running and attempting to jump from one to another. There were some super Maths opportunities too, as the children were observed countingthe paw prints and exploring one to one correspondence, by placing a foam brick on each one. Children have displayed some simple imaginative play, pretending to feed the animals and then placing a blanket over them, as though they were going to sleep!

❤️ 🩷 At Seaton Delaval, in the Chill Out Chipmunks room this half term we have been focusing on our emotions with the children using "The Colour Monster" book and asking the children how they feel and which colour this corresponds to. In February we began to focus on the emotion of love! The children enjoyed telling us this was the pink colour monster. We made pink coloured playdough and even made our own love heart biscuits for the children to enjoy as an end of half term treat! This linked well with the theme of Valentines day and we created cards and sensory play to promote fine motor skills ❤️ 🩷

We hope you have a lovely half term and we will see you all on Monday 23rd February!

This term at Seaton Deleval, in our Chill Out Chipmunks (2-3 year olds) we have been focusing on the theme of Winter! We discussed with the children what the weather was each day if it was "frosty" "sunny" "snowy" or "freezing". The children would talk about what items of clothing they need to go outside to keep warm. We have been reading the book "Winter" and sang the songs of "It is Winter" during circle time. The children enjoyed some of our sensory activities to promote their fine motor skills of scooping and pouring "sparkly ice water" into various containers and search for the Artic animals on the Icebergs! We have been focusing on our colour mixing with the Chill Out Chinchillas (3-4 year olds) too! We hid paint underneath bubble wrap and encouraged the children to pop as many as possible, the children loved this activity and enjoyed watching the colours mix as they popped the bubbles!

This term at Seaton Delaval in our Chill Out Chimps (under 2 room) we have been focusing on the theme of Winter! We have talked to the children about outside being "cold" and "icy". Within our activities we have encouraged sensory play to promote the children's fine motor skills with mark making in the snowy glitter. We read stories about Winter and sang the song "It is Winter" with the children during circle time. The children are currently enjoying the theme of "Brown Bear' Brown Bear, What do you see?" We are using this story for the children based upon their interests of learning new animals and their sounds! The children have enjoyed posting the various coloured animals into brown bear's box as he discovers them in the book!
