Here we go againā¦
We know attendance posts can sometimes feel like weāre saying the same thing over and over againā¦ so we thought weād make this one slightly more interesting.
Because apparently, when we say āStudents Firstā and āattendance mattersā in the same sentence, it causes some confusion š¬
So, just to clear things upā¦
Students First. That includes their health, their wellbeing, their education, helping them achieve the qualifications they need and, controversially, it includes encouraging them to actually attend school when theyāre well enough to do so.
Now, weāre not suggesting anyone ignores a hospital appointment, drags a poorly child through the school gates kicking and screaming or chooses a GCSE lesson over their childās health. What weāre saying is that, if they can be in school, being in school matters. Not to mention that fact that itās also kind of a legal requirement.
Yes, we know getting a GP or dentist appointment can sometimes be harder than trying to get Oasis tickets. And yes, we really do understand that we donāt always get to choose the time of our appointments. So when we say that āattendance mattersā, it doesāt mean that āhealth doesnāt.ā
So here it is: Year 11 Attendance Matters.
A handy little guide explaining why those lessons matter, what happens when students miss them, and why being in school consistently really does make a difference.
