✂️ The Discovery children building more muscles in their hands ✂️
Learning through play based activities in early years is far more effective than conventional “typical” writing exercises.
“The development of hand muscles is essential for grasping actions and coordination of finger movements. Whole hand development can be seen in very young children, for example, grasping objects, transferring objects from hands to mouth and between hands clapping and banging objects together.” The Department of Education.

The consultation is open for 8 weeks on the government website.
Increasing a fair funding rate is the safer and obvious option. Make childcare accessible for all to help strengthen the economy. Not risk the safety of our children.

Today was the 4th forest school session for some of our investigators.
The children have been introduced to tools this week and been shown how to use them safely. They listened very carefully and used what they had learnt when having a go with our forest school leader Naomi. They used the bow saw to cut their own pieces of wood and a knife for whittling the sticks for the fire. We also noticed that the bird feeders needed refilling so we helped to do that too.
Of course it wouldn’t be forest school without ending with a hot chocolate and a biscuit. 🌿🌳🔥

*Partnership with parents*
Our phonics workshop. 🍎❤
It was nice to be able to welcome parents back into our setting for our phonics workshop.
Phonics at this age is all about sounds, rhythms and rhymes, songs, body percussion, stories and sounds in the environment.
Our youngest children don’t need ‘formal’ teaching sat on a carpet or around a table.
We use these workshops to discuss how to support their children's letter recognition and formation through fun learning opportunities.
Providing learning opportunities to encourage reading and writing through play.
We also used this opportunity to talk to parents about school transitions and how to support them with this next big step and what we are doing within nursery as well.

We are blessed to have the best handy lady! Always making us new resources.
Our Explorer's have had the best time in our new sandpit, feeling the texture of the sand and taking the wheel driving the boat!
