Scarborough Fair Collection Visit

Our recent trip to the Scarborough Fair Collection was a tremendous success and a fantastic day of learning and fun.

The children thoroughly enjoyed experiencing over ten traditional fairground rides, with Thriller and The Ghost Train being clear favourites. They explored an impressive collection of beautifully restored vintage vehicles. They also took part in a fascinating talk from Michael, who explained the history and workings of the magnificent Wurlitzer organ.

The children also met a piano tuner, who demonstrated the skill and precision involved in tuning pianos, before trying their luck in the traditional Penny Arcade. Throughout the day, the children were enthusiastic, curious, and impeccably behaved, making the most of every opportunity.
It was a truly immersive experience, creating wonderful memories that will stay with us all for many years to come.

Thank you to all our staff and volunteers for making it such an enjoyable day.

Mrs Fardoe-Elliott.

Summer Holiday Safeguarding

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of another busy school year, we would like to wish all of our families a happy, safe and enjoyable summer holiday.

Although school is closed over the summer break, safeguarding remains everyone's responsibility. If you have any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child during the holidays, please do not wait until school reopens.

If a child is in immediate danger, always contact the police by dialling 999.

If you are concerned about the safety or welfare of a child and the situation is urgent but does not require the police, please contact North Yorkshire Children's Social Care on 0300 131 2 131. When prompted, say "Children's Social Care", and an advisor will be able to help.

Further information about keeping children safe and how to report concerns can be found on the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Partnership website:
https://safeguardingchildren.co.uk/

You can also find information about safeguarding, including our safeguarding policies and contacts, on the Hertford Vale CE Primary School website:
https://www.hertfordvale.co.uk/about-us/safeguarding

Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. We wish you all a restful and enjoyable summer and look forward to welcoming the children back in September.

On Monday, Sara the beekeeper came to visit the Year2/3 class to consolidate this term's learning on bees and plants.

The children had a fantastic afternoon learning about the hive and how to keep bees.

We learnt how different flowers give the honey different flavours and colours. We looked at the lifecycle of a bee and got to scoop honey from the honeycomb.

At the end of the session we got to try 2 different types of honey too. The children said it was ‘So yummy!’

Thank you to Sara and Emma for the visit. We had a brilliant time!

With one ice cream sale still to go, we have raised an incredible £2,810.69 this school year, from cake, ice cream and uniform sales, the Christmas Fair, Easter Bingo and the Colour Run.

So far, the money raised has funded a new mobile oven which has been used by all classes, making classroom cookery lessons more straight forward. It has also been used to try a range of different Mexican food during this term’s topic, which the children have really enjoyed.

In support of the 2026 National Year of Reading, the money raised will also fund an outdoor reading area, which is due to be installed in September, allowing the children to access books during break times. As always, it will also fund the end of year disco, so that we can keep this event free for all of the children at school.

As a committee we all took over in September from a very experienced group, whose children all left for secondary school. We are incredibly grateful for your help, support, baking and volunteering to pitch in while we worked out what we were doing! A huge thanks also goes to Micheala and the previous team for their vital guidance.

If you would like to get involved with the Friends of Hertford Vale to help support these fundraising efforts, please let the school office know and we will add you to the WhatsApp Group of volunteers.

Thanks again, and enjoy the summer holidays!

Sidewalk is running a range of weekly and one-off activities throughout the summer for young people aged 10 and over.

These sessions are a great opportunity to meet new people, build confidence and support children who are preparing for the transition to secondary school. Please see the attached poster for full details of the activities available.

The Year 6 children enjoyed a morning of first aid today. Mrs Green took them through the basics of resuscitation, using the defibrillator as well as how to help people who are choking.

These valuable life skills were practiced by all the children and we hope that if needed, they will have a basic understanding of what to do in an emergency.

Thank you to Mrs Green for sharing her first aid skills and for making the morning both informative and enjoyable.

Today we held our very first Hertford Vale Maths Carnival!

Despite having limited time to prepare, our Year 5 and Year 6 children did an amazing job designing and leading a range of fun maths stations. Their activities developed a variety of skills, including counting, estimating, problem solving and mathematical knowledge, all while making learning fun and engaging.

The children worked hard to adapt their stations so that everyone from Reception to Year 5 could take part and enjoy the challenges. It was wonderful to see pupils across school getting involved, developing their maths skills and showing such enthusiasm — especially when competing to earn stickers!

Our Year 5 and Year 6 children should feel incredibly proud of their creativity, teamwork and confidence in inspiring others across school. A fantastic first Maths Carnival!

As always thank you for your support

As part of their Science learning, our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to dissect a pig's heart. This hands-on experience allowed them to identify the different parts of the heart and deepen their understanding of how it works.

We were incredibly impressed by the maturity and respect the children showed throughout the activity, as well as their enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to learn. It was a fantastic practical lesson that brought their learning to life!

They all assured us they really enjoyed the experience… even if some of the faces in the photos might suggest otherwise! 😊

As always thank you for your support,

Miss Higgs

We still have spaces in our lovely Nursery and Reception class for September.

Please could you pass this onto anyone who might be looking for a place for their child and share it on social media?

Thank you.

As we approach the summer holidays, the Early Help Team would like to share a list of support services and useful links with local families in case you may benefit from this information.

Making support information easily accessible can help ensure that families are aware of the range of local and national services available. It may be particularly valuable for those who feel unable or reluctant to approach school staff directly for support, enabling them to seek help independently when needed.

Thanks

Kind regards,

The Early Help Team
