I just wanted to say a HUGE thank-you to all who came along to my pre-view show at Sitwell Nibbles, in scarboroughmuseums my jaw is numb from all the talking, but it was great to see everyone who came! I also wanted to say a special thank-you to the amazing .bass3 and who helped organise and curate…. You guys are brilliant! For those who didn’t manage to come along last night the pieces will be up for a little while yet so bob in for a view and a brew.

A reminder that tonight (8/10/26) we will be hosting a preview evening for my solo show in Sitwell’s Cafe, Woodend, 5:30-7:30. If you are available it would be great to see some friendly faces. On a different note I wanted to have a break from sea creatures so while playing I created this 30cm sq folk art meets pop art piece… MOOO!

Something totally different for me…
Meet John Owston Senior (1843–1916). 
I created this watercolor and ink portrait to honor a true Scarborough legend. As a Scarborough lifeboat coxswain for an incredible 41 years, he saved 230 lives. RNLI
Working with sepia tones and textured 640gsm khadipapers paper felt like the right way to bring a piece of our maritime history back to life. There’s so much grit and resilience in stories like his.

Koi, Acrylic on Canvas (70cm x 50cm).
Here I re-painted one of my favourite sketches from earlier in the year.
I love Koi and their individual markings and how they move through the water. This one is almost semi abstract as I wanted to create a sense of movement and the distortion effect the water can have on the fish. The colours on this one are SO vibrant!

Cloughton Sunflowers.
I saw these while on the walk and sketch workshop at the weekend and loved them. So much so that I go up early with a canvas board and limited pallet and did a quick study (pics 3-5), however they look more like daisy’s than sunflowers. Most of them faced the opposite direction so you didn’t see the full face.
I re created the scene at home with fuller heads and now I think they resemble sunflowers?
I’m enjoying playing with landscapes, this one is impressionistic with these thick expressive brush strokes. What do you think?
