What comes after a 16-hour Outdoor First Aid course?

For many UK outdoor people, the answer is… another 16-hour course three years later.

But elsewhere, there's a more obvious progression:

🏕️ WFA – 16+ hours
🧭 WAFA – 36+ hours
⛰️ WFR – 70+ hours

The extra time isn't simply about learning more first aid. It creates opportunities for realistic scenarios, problem-solving, prolonged casualty care and making decisions when professional help isn't immediately available.

We already have excellent Outdoor First Aid training in the UK, and advanced wilderness training does exist here.

So could there be more opportunity to progress beyond the traditional two-day course?

It’s not always obvious.
