This week in Ducklings we have been learning all about food and where it comes from! 🌱🐄

The children explored different types of foods and discovered which foods grow in the ground and which grow above the ground. We also talked about foods that come from animals and foods that come from plants, helping the children sort and group them together during our discussions and activities.

One of our favourite activities was our fruit and vegetable taste testing using fresh produce from our local farm shop. The children loved exploring the different colours, textures and tastes, with lots even trying new foods for the very first time! A BIG thank you to Woodview Farm Shop for your kind donation of fruit and vegetables. 🍓🥕🍉🫜🍑🫛🫜🍊🫑

We also had lots of fun learning about cows and how milk gets from the farm to our homes. The children had the chance to “milk a cow” using our glove udder filled with milk — there were lots of giggles during this activity! 🐄🥛

It has been a wonderful week full of hands-on learning, exploring, tasting and discovering where our food comes from. ✨

🐝✨ What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Duckling Class! ✨🐝

This week we have been learning all about bees and why they are so important to our world. The children have loved discovering lots of fun facts about bees, exploring the life cycle of a bee, and creating some beautiful bee crafts 🖤💛

We also learnt all about honey and even got to try honey on toast! The children practised spreading independently and carefully cutting their own toast, helping to build confidence and independence 🍯🍞

Miss Harman bought in some of her very own Bees and their honeycomb, wearing her Beekeeping suit! 🐝 The children were fascinated, looking at home videos and photographs of her bees and learning more about how honey is made.

It has been a lovely week full of curiosity, learning, creativity, and lots of buzzing excitement! 🌼✨

There’s something truly magical about our time at Nature School 🌿

Each week, our little learners step away from the busy indoors and into the calm, open world around them. We slow down, look up, and take part in something we like to call cloud bathing - lying on our backs, watching the clouds drift by, spotting shapes, and simply being still. It’s in these quiet moments that imaginations grow and minds begin to relax.

And then… the joy! Exploring, giggles in the air, and rolling freely in the grass. Feeling the earth beneath them, the breeze on their faces, and the freedom to just be. These experiences aren’t just fun—they help build confidence, resilience, and a deep connection to the natural world.

At Nature School, we’re not just learning about nature—we’re learning through it. 💚

📚✨ Weekly Eco Hub Story Time ✨📚

We’re so excited to be taking our pre-school children to the local Eco Hub once a week for a special story time session!

This wonderful opportunity allows the children to explore a calm and welcoming environment, develop their love for books, and enjoy listening to new and exciting stories together. 📖💛

We look forward to making this a special part of our weekly routine and helping our little learners grow into confident, curious readers 🌱✨

This week in pre-school, our focus book has been the traditional tale - Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have been exploring the story through a range of fun, hands-on activities.

We began the week by sharing the story together, encouraging the children to join in with repeated phrases and spoke about what was happening.

As part of our learning, we planted our own “magic beans” and cress heads and spoke about what plants need to grow. 🌱☀️💦

We explored simple maths concepts such as counting, comparing size, and measuring height as we thought about how tall the beanstalk might grow! (They were excited to see how tall their own would grow) 🪴

The children have had lots of opportunities to get creative, messy play trays, beanstalks, using their hands to paint with and we used flowers to print spring pictures with. 🌸🌼

We have encouraged storytelling and retelling of the story in their own words, helping to build confidence and communication skills.

Christmas week in Ducklings was full of magic, laughter, and little moments that made our hearts smile. 🤍

From festive crafts and holiday songs to stories, games, and lots of giggles. Our classroom was filled with Christmas cheer all week long.

We joined Gamlingay Village Primary to welcome our families in for our Christmas Craft afternoon, enjoyed a lovely Carol Service at the Baptist Church and ate a yummy Christmas lunch cooked by the wonderfull kitchen staff in the school.

We wish our children and families a very Merry Christmas. May this special time be filled with joy, peace, and cherished moments with loved ones.

Thank you for your continued support throughout the year and for our thoughtful Christmas cards and gifts. 🥰 We look forward to seeing everyone back in the New Year and welcoming new faces into Ducklings Class.
