Samlesbury CE Primary School is a unique school with only 70 pupils meaning we're like one big family. We value each and every child and staff member, as we work together to fulfil our vision, 'Let your light shine so that together in God’s Love and Grace we learn, inspire others and grow'. At Samlesbury we don't organise specific Open Days, instead we believe every day is an Open Day so if you would like to come and visit us, please get in touch.

Many thanks to the wonderful “People Who Help Us” who generously gave their time this term to visit our Reception class. We are very grateful to Adam and Luke, our local PCSOs, Asma, a midwife, and Reece, a paramedic, for speaking to the children about their important roles within our community.

We would also like to thank our Year 6 pupils, who dressed as dentists and vets and delivered engaging presentations on caring for animals and maintaining good oral hygiene.

The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about these inspiring careers and gained a deeper understanding of the vital work people do to keep us safe and healthy.

Year 3/4 went down the rabbit hole for World Book Day!

We spent the morning enjoying an Alice in Wonderland adventure, making pocket watches and mysterious potions, playing wonderfully silly games, solving anagrams and puzzles and searching for the correct key to unlock our treasure chest.

After lots of teamwork and hard thinking, we finally solved the challenge and opened the chest to discover our well-earned treat!

We had a fantastic morning full of creativity, laughter and problem-solving, and the children worked brilliantly throughout.

“Play is the highest form of research.” — Albert Einstein

The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning through play this term in our infant classroom. Through their play experiences, they have developed a wide range of positive characteristics. They have strengthened their communication and language skills by sharing ideas and negotiating roles, built confidence by exploring new challenges, and demonstrated creativity through imaginative thinking.

Play has also supported the development of resilience and perseverance as children learned to solve problems, adapt their ideas, and try again when things did not go as planned. Working collaboratively has encouraged teamwork, empathy, and respect for others, while independent play has fostered curiosity and self-motivation.

It has been wonderful to see how purposeful play continues to nurture both their personal growth and their love of learning.

They have developed a range of new skills, including shaping and moulding clay, using different tools to create texture and detail, and refining their designs through careful finishing techniques.

The children in Reception class thoroughly enjoyed learning about Chinese New Year. They listened to the story Cleversticks and had the opportunity to practise using chopsticks while tasting noodles. The class also took part in a New Year parade around the school and greatly enjoyed role-playing in our Chinese restaurant.

Looking ahead to tomorrow!

Tomorrow is our next WOW learning day, and it’s all about science! The focus will be on investigations, data collection, and analysing results to reach conclusions – and, of course, there will be lots of fun along the way!

One of the sessions involves being outdoor so please could you make sure your child brings in a hat, gloves, as it will be a little chilly! The session will also involve fire, so let’s hope for dry weather!

We’ll be sure to share plenty of photos so you can see all the exciting things we get up to tomorrow!

🌟 What an amazing group of pupil leaders we have at school!
A huge well done to Matilda, Minnie, Laila, and Edith, who led the pupil charity sale this afternoon. Thanks to their hard work, they raised a fantastic £152.42 from all your much-loved donations!

A big thank you to everyone for your generosity and for donating so many lovely items. It’s always such a proud moment to see our children leading by example, showing independence, and taking the initiative. Well done to all! 👏
