Blackbird rescue operation π¦
π
A neighbour asked me to catch this injured blackbird on Thurs eve. He was bleeding a lot and very stressed, I didn't really expect him to survive the night but it turns out he's a feisty little fellow π
I bathed his wounds as quietly and quickly as I could, wrapped him and put him in a shoebox, Ruby helped the whole time.
He survived a couple of hours so I put the box in a cage with a water dish for overnight. He was alive by morning which was amazing; small birds so often don't survive the stress or blood loss π
So I let him out to see how he was moving. He started eating a strawberry straight away! Making no attempt to fly though so I re-caught him and covered him back up until we gave him a worm to eat, which the kids loved to see him do.
Today he's been out again but the wing is still drooping so, although all the rescue sites have said they're not taking animals due to covid19, I've emailed RSPCA for their advice.
In the meantime, meet Montgomery Blackbird π
