Another academic year comes to a close. A long summer ahead with my gorgeous family. I'm still tutoring and available for assessments subject to availability.

Hi everyone! I wanted to take a second to share my experience, it makes me feel old, truly!

During studying for my English degree, I worked in schools across St Helens, for a company that offered wraparound care. This was from 2006-2009. This was during the time I was studying for my English degree.

Once I had graduated, I worked in a local primary school supporting pupils as a Learning Support Assistant from 2009-2012. I then returned to university to study for my PGCE.

After qualifying with my PGCE, I got my first job and started teaching in a local primary school. I was there for three years before I moved on to my current school, where I've been since 2017. I tutored around this time too.

In 2022, I shared in my appraisal that I was passionate about supporting pupils and the subject of SEN. My line manager suggested the dyslexia course to me, where you can study to become a dyslexia tutor and assessor. I was intrigued but nervous. I missed the first year but enrolled the next available time I could. I studied part time for 2 years whilst working full time as a teacher from 2023-2025.

In 2024 I covered the SENCo role for my colleague who went on maternity leave for a year. I began studying for the NPQ SENCo qualification which I complete the final assessment for next week!

I qualified in April 2025 as a specialist dyslexia tutor and a dyslexia assessor. I am now an associate member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA).

I have worked in education for over 17 years and it has changed a lot. But it's a fulfilling and amazing role and something I've always been passionate about. My first class will be around 20 years old now!

Bring us to now. I offer tutoring and dyslexia assessments with a number of years experience of working with pupils from reception to Year 6 and beyond.

Time flies honestly but it's been a crazy & amazing journey.
