We are delighted to share some exciting news with you. Wave Shoreline Academy have welcomed two Tenrecs as our new school pets!
Tenrecs are small, gentle mammals native to Madagascar. They are naturally shy and mostly active during the evening, making them fascinating animals for pupils to learn about. They will live in
a specially designed enclosure where they can be cared for safely and comfortably.
Having school pets provides many valuable opportunities for our pupils. Research shows that caring for animals can have a positive impact on children's wellbeing, confidence and emotional development.
As an alternative provision academy, we know that positive relationships and nurturing experiences play an important role in helping our pupils feel safe, calm and ready to learn.
The Tenrecs will help pupils to:
๐ข Develop responsibility and empathy through caring for living creatures.
๐ข Build confidence and self-esteem by taking part in supervised care routines.
๐ข Support emotional regulation by spending quiet, calm time observing or interacting with the animals.
๐ข Learn about animal welfare, habitats and conservation through our curriculum.
๐ข Develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
The Tenrecs are being well looked after over the summer holidays and canโt wait to be back at the academy in September to see the pupils and staff in the new academic year.

Today we are proudly celebrating National Thank a Teacher Day!
We recognise the incredible dedication of all our teams and celebrate their commitment and outstanding contribution to our community. Helping with our commitment to quality teaching, meeting pupils emotional and social needs and ensuring all pupils are kept safe and know how to keep themselves safe.
A special shout out to Lois Harris, whose creativity, passion and energy have made a lasting impact at Wave Glendinning Academy and across the Trust. From music and drama to our much-loved Christmas videos, Lois brings joy, confidence and opportunity to our Glendinning pupils, families and staff alike. ๐ญ๐ถ
We are incredibly proud to share that Lois has been awarded Highly Commended in the 2026 Pearson National Teaching Awards for Teaching Assistant of the Year. ๐
This national recognition is testament to her exceptional dedication, creativity and the difference she makes every day.
Lois truly embodies what it means to be a Teaching Assistant โ going above and beyond to support pupils, build confidence, and create meaningful connections. Through initiatives such as our school choir, individual music support, and our first-ever school production of High School Musical, she has inspired pupils to step outside their comfort zones and believe in themselves. We look forward to seeing and hearing more from this yearโs Glendinning School play Matilda being held this week.
Congratulations Loisโค๏ธ Glendinning Academy
