We’ve Stumbled Upon the Birthplace of Plasticine! 🇬🇧
We've just unearthed a hidden gem! While exploring the quaint villages of Bath and North East Somerset, on our journey up North, we stumbled upon a village that holds a surprising amount of history – the birthplace of Plasticine at Bathampton!
Who knew this world-famous modelling material was born right here in Blighty? The inventor, William Harbutt, developed Plasticine in 1897 as a safe and clean alternative to clay. Originally marketed to teachers, Plasticine quickly captured the imaginations of children around the world.
The original factory, sadly destroyed by fire in 1963, was replaced by a modern factory. It's amazing to think that something so simple has sparked creativity and countless hours of fun for generations.
If you're ever in the area, keep an eye out for this little piece of history! It's a fun fact to add to your travel trivia arsenal. Who knows, maybe you'll even be inspired to create your own masterpiece out of Plasticine!
What is your favourite memory of plasticine? Drop it in the comments below 👇

Well we’ve not posted anything in a long time but tonight deserves a special mention 😍 We happened upon a lovely place tonight on our way to an assignment. We found a very friendly, gorgeous and newly refurbished pub with the best landlady with solid Liverpool roots! Can’t wait to return as it will also be, from next week, a motorhome stopover on the proviso you eat the delicious food! Thanks for your hospitality and welcome!
