🐾🏡 Learning through play 🏡🐾

Year 10 students attending the Birches Provision have been working towards units from the AQA Unit Award Scheme, currently exploring the Five Welfare Needs of Animals.

Students were challenged to design accommodation for an animal of their choice. One student chose to create a ferret enclosure using Magna-Tiles, giving a fantastic explanation of how it would meet their ferret's welfare needs.

It's been great to see students applying their knowledge creatively while developing their communication and problem-solving skills. Well done! 👏🐾

🐷✨ Pig Enrichment Challenge! ✨🐷

Our Year 13 Animal Management students helped move our breeding pigs around.

To help settle them, students were challenged to design and create enrichment items that stimulated at least three senses while encouraging the pigs to display their natural behaviours such as rooting, foraging, exploring and problem-solving.

Providing appropriate enrichment is an important aspect of animal welfare, helping to reduce boredom and promote positive behavioural wellbeing.

A fantastic practical session showcasing both excellent animal husbandry skills and creative thinking from our students! 🐽🌿👏
