King Alfred was initially recognised as king of Mercia as well as Wessex after the deposition of Burgred in 873/4, and was even called REX ANG(lorum) on one of two known examples of the two emperors portrait penny type. The other specimen of this fascinating type is in the name of Ceolwulf II, the new Mercian king installed by the Vikings.

Our new repro Number 794 is just this coin mentioned above. It's a fabulous example of a very rare coin and represents the REX ANGLO coin found in the Watlington Hoard.

Happy New Year to all our customers. May this coming year bring you everything you wish for. Unfortunately we have been slammed with a price increase in the price of gold plating and have to increase the prices of our gold plated coins by between 20-25p. Gold prices to us have increased dramatically and this increase does not represent our full increase.

I copied this medal of Charles I for a customer last week. It's a medal of Charles I probably lost straight after the Battle of Worcester or ripped off the body of a Charles I supporter. It's come out great hasn't it? The original is on the far left.It'll be added to our sales list soon.

Before and after pics of some repro's I bronzed this morning. First pic is of items cast, filed and brush-cleaned ready for bronzing. Second pic is finished items ready for sale :-) It's a long process but they do look great
