Noun Phrases!
This week, one activity that is planned is to make silly sentences using noun phrases. Pink for nouns, green for adjectives and then we'll be moving on to blue cards for verbs! Some children have made keyring fobs with important self-drawn visuals on to help them remember word types. We've practised activities linked to word substitution and thinking of alternative adjectives to describe key nouns. We've also looked at where commas are used to separate adjectives and nouns in a list. Fabulous work everyone! 🤩

Today we were learning about the split digraph a-e. We made a cake out of Playdoh and then looked at patterns in words containing the a-e sound - same, tame, frame, came etc... using onset and rime. We made words using practical equipment and segmented the sounds to spell words. All of our flashcards and worksheets contained a picture of a cake to try and make a pictoral link for the sound. 😊🤩

⭐️⭐️Squashing sounds! ⭐️⭐️
Today we rolled balls of Playdoh to match the number of graphemes in a word and then SQUASHED them whilst segmenting, before blending! Different colours for different versions of the sound
e.g. t-ow-er / s-ou-n-d.
Great fun!😀

Great activity this week used in different ways with each pupil.
Digraphs were written on the stepping stones leading up to my classroom - everyone was eager to find out what the new activity was 🙂
🐣Jumping along the stepping stones to practise recall of vowel digraphs
🐣Jumping along to find and stopping at the missing digraph of a word written on a whiteboard e.g. towel, bath, sheep
🐣Thinking of a word containing each digraph on the path and making a list using magnetic letters (placing them on the stones)
🐣Thinking of rhyming words containing some of the sounds e.g. down, crown, gown, moon, soon, balloon

The sunshine helped to make this possible!!!! What a glorious week we've had! ☀️

⭐️Lots of multi-sensory activities going on this week. ⭐️
Spelling with magnetic letters, playdough, phoneme frames, stamps, syllable work and visuals etc..... Lots of different ways to remember words to spell! ☺️
