Really proud and thrilled to announce that I now have a certificate in Trauma Informed Education. The course will help me to better meet the needs of children who have been through any kind of trauma or stress, but the strategies for helping children feel safe and secure and for building trust will help me to better support all my students.
I have daytime availability for home ed students aged 7 to 13 years. Message, email or call for more info.

A new year and a new focus.
In 2026 I want to focus on developing the Home Ed side of Steps Tuition - providing quality online support for children learning at home. Sadly this means the children can't stroke Misty, but my cats make regular online appearances and children continue to surprise me with how adept they are at learning on line.
So if you're looking for individualised learning that is planned around what YOUR child is interested in, this may be for you.
Why me?
I have 40 years experience (over 20 as a headteacher), both secondary and primary although I now specialise in the 7 to 11 age group.
I have an enhanced DBS, a Safeguarding certificate and offer Trauma Informed learning.
I can deliver the whole curriculum (apart from languages, music and PE) - although my specialism is maths (I have a Diploma in Primary Maths Education and spent 10 years as a visiting lecturer for maths on a PGCE course).
I welcome tuition with SEND children, having extensive experience, both professionally and within my own family. My focus on building relationships and a safe space for learning has helped to ensure positive outcomes.
I make learning fun! Sessions are creative, imaginative and the topics, learning style and pace depend on the individual child.
Children learn best when they feel safe, happy, confident - and valued, so I spend time getting to know each child as a person and as a learner.
Parents make the choice to home school for many reasons - and I understand the choice can sometimes be a brave one and present challenges. I can help with a specific subject or deliver the wider curriculum. I can provide advice on planning, SEND support and assessment. I can work in partnership with you to plan the best possible provision for your child.
Message me if you'd like a no obligation chat about how I may be able to support you and your child.

Learning about the properties of 3D shapes by making 3D Shape pets. Apparently the cube is called Geoffrey. A fun, practical activity which helps to develop an understanding of the vocabulary and concepts in a way that will be remembered - as well as practising some design and technology skills along the way.

Learning through cooking
Cooking is a great way to develop a whole range of maths and English skills as well as learning some basic cookery techniques. We used rhubarb from the garden to make an awesome crumble. Online students made their own versions at home. In the process they developed their understanding of weight, reading scales, temperature, time and capacity, as well as learning to write instructions using imperative verbs and adverbs. Finally they got to share their delicious crumble with family. Definitely a ‘do again’!

Summer is finally here - and hopefully some time to spend on sharing some of the fabulous work done by my students. As Steps Tuition approaches the end of the first year of tutoring, I'm looking forward to planning for next academic year.
It's been a busy year - with lots of successes and lots of learning - for the students - and for me! I'm excited to build on this and continue to develop tuition that starts with the individual needs of each child, leading them step by step through their learning. It has been a real privilege to see the children's growth in confidence as they have learned new skills.

Just getting to developing my online presence with some of the activities my awesome students are doing at the moment.
I love using sweets, cats, lego, cooking - and anything that is part of their everyday lives - to learn everyday maths!
