Private KS2 and 11+ Tutor, Online and In-person (Romford) | Home Education Specialist
High-quality lessons, rooted in the mastery approach and using up-to-date research. Iโ€™m a highly qualified and experienced KS2 and 11+ Tutor with over 10 years of classroom experience across three London boroughs, supported by a Masterโ€™s degree in Education. I began my teaching career at the London North-East Hub

for Maths Mastery and Literacy, where I developed my teaching approach inspired by the world-leading maths mastery methods of Shanghai and Singapore. During this time, I held several leadership positions, including Head of Maths, working to enhance teaching and learning not only within my school but also across partner schools. Throughout my teaching career, I have consistently received excellent feedback from parents, pupils, and colleagues, recognising my dedication to creating engaging, inclusive, and effective learning experiences. Since becoming a parent myself, I have chosen to step away from the traditional classroom to home-educate my own children. This inspired me to launch my own tutoring and home education service in Romford, Essex, where I provide:
๐Ÿ“š Home schooling for children aged 5โ€“7 and 8โ€“11
๐Ÿงฎ In-person and online tutoring in Maths and Literacy (group or one-to-one)

My teaching is guided by a spiral curriculum approach, ensuring learning is fun, engaging, and meaningfully connected across subjects โ€” helping every child grow in confidence and curiosity.

11+ Maths exams are coming up very soon! ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ“š

If your child is preparing for the 11+, there are certain topics worth learning specifically for the exam โ€” even if they have covered related ideas in primary school.

In this video, I work through an 11+ question involving percentage change.

Although percentages are taught in primary school, percentage change isnโ€™t usually taught explicitly as a specific method.

The good news? The method is actually very straightforward! ๐Ÿง โœจ

Difference รท Original ร— 100

Once children understand what the formula means โ€” especially why we divide by the original amount โ€” these questions become much more manageable.

This is a great example of how targeted 11+ preparation can help. A child may understand percentages well but still lose marks simply because they havenโ€™t been taught how to approach percentage-change questions.

If your child is preparing for the 11+, make sure theyโ€™re secure with distance, speed and time. ๐Ÿš—โฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ“

Itโ€™s a key example of a topic that may not be taught at primary school level, but can appear in 11+ exams. I work with several 11+ pupils, and this is an area many are unfamiliar with.

With exams coming up next month, now is a good time to check whether your child can confidently tackle these questions.

Other topics that may require explicit 11+ preparation include:

๐Ÿ”น Ratio & proportion
๐Ÿ”น Algebraic thinking
๐Ÿ”น Advanced sequences
๐Ÿ”น Averages & data interpretation
๐Ÿ”น Probability
๐Ÿ”น Coordinates & transformations
๐Ÿ”น More challenging area, perimeter & volume
๐Ÿ”น Multi-step reasoning problems
๐Ÿ”น Fractions, percentages & decimals in unfamiliar contexts

Being secure with Year 4/5 Maths doesnโ€™t automatically mean being 11+ ready.

Sometimes, itโ€™s not the difficult maths that catches children out โ€” itโ€™s the small details. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ“

In my latest video, I work through an 11+ volume question involving a triangular-shaped wedge.

There are two important things children need to spot:

๐Ÿ”น The question asks for the answer in cmยณ, but one of the measurements is given in mm โ€” so the units need to be converted first.
๐Ÿ”น Because the shape is a triangular wedge, the volume needs to be halved at the end.

Miss either of these steps and you could lose a mark, even if you know how to calculate volume. โš ๏ธ

These are exactly the kinds of details I encourage children to look out for when tackling 11+ questions: read carefully, identify what the question is really asking, and donโ€™t rush into calculating. ๐Ÿง

๐Ÿ“š SUMMER MATHS SESSIONS

Iโ€™m running structured weekly maths sessions throughout the summer:

KS2 literacy isnโ€™t just about knowing grammar rules โ€” itโ€™s about recognising patterns and having simple strategies to tackle questions confidently. ๐Ÿง โœจ

In my latest video, I model a question from the 2026 KS2 Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling paper, focusing on main clauses and parentheses.

A simple strategy I demonstrate is to use the dashes to identify the additional information, then mentally remove it to reveal the main clause. This makes parentheses questions much easier to approach.

The same technique can also help children identify relative clauses, another key area of KS2 grammar.

๐Ÿ”น Year 6 โ†’ Year 7: Tuesdays, 5:45โ€“6:45pm
๐Ÿ”น Year 5 โ†’ Year 6: Thursdays, 5:45โ€“6:45pm

Sessions focus on strengthening grammar, building confidence with SATs-style questions, and giving children practical strategies they can use independently.

I also offer 1:1 tuition for children who need a more personalised approach.

With 10+ years of teaching and tutoring experience, a Masterโ€™s in Education and secondary teaching experience, my focus is on genuine understanding โ€” not simply memorising rules. ๐ŸŽฏ

Maths mastery isnโ€™t just about getting the right answer โ€” itโ€™s about knowing which steps to take, why they work, and how to tackle unfamiliar problems. ๐Ÿง โœจ

In my latest video, I model a shaded-area question from Paper 3: Reasoning in the 2026 KS2 SATs.

Children need to:
๐Ÿ”น Find the area of the rectangle
๐Ÿ”น Find the area of the triangle
๐Ÿ”น Remember to halve the triangleโ€™s area
๐Ÿ”น Subtract to find the shaded area

Itโ€™s deceptively challenging, particularly for children working at Expected Standard (EXP) or Working Towards Standard (WTS). The maths isnโ€™t necessarily difficult โ€” the challenge is recognising the structure and connecting different ideas.

Thatโ€™s the kind of mathematical thinking I aim to develop: understanding methods, recognising patterns, and solving unfamiliar problems with confidence. ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿ“š Parents of KS2 children and those starting Year 7 this Septemberโ€”this oneโ€™s for you! โœจ

One of the biggest challenges in literacy is keeping up with the growing expectations around grammar. Children are expected to confidently identify and use a range of grammar techniques, but sometimes the best way to improve is by going back to basics. ๐Ÿ’ก

In this video, I share a simple but highly effective activity focused on the four key word classes: nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Using the word beauty as an example, I show how one root word can create different word forms before leaving you with two more sets to have a go at yourselves! โœ๏ธ

Not only does this reinforce childrenโ€™s understanding of each word class and highlight any gaps in knowledge, but it also strengthens spelling by exploring how prefixes and suffixes create new words from the same root. A brilliant way to build vocabulary and confidence at the same time! ๐ŸŒŸ

Throughout the summer, Iโ€™m running weekly structured literacy sessions:
๐Ÿ“– Tuesdays (Year 7 Literacy): 5:45pmโ€“6:45pm
๐Ÿ“– Thursdays (KS2 Literacy): 5:45pmโ€“6:45pm

I also offer 1:1 tuition for children who would benefit from more personalised support.

โœจ Times tables are about so much more than memorising one fact! โœจ

Instead of only learning 6 ร— 7 = 42, help children build true mastery by exploring the same idea in lots of different ways:

โœ… 7 ร— 6 = 42
โœ… 42 รท 7 = 6
โœ… 42 รท 6 = 7
โœ… The product of 6 and 7 is 42
โœ… 42 shared equally between 6 is 7

The more connections children make, the stronger those facts become in their long-term memory, leading to greater fluency, accuracy and confidence with times tables. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’ก

Whether your child is in primary school or youโ€™re home educating, this approach helps develop a much deeper understanding of maths. ๐Ÿ“š

๐ŸŽ“โœจ Fractions with unlike denominators can be one of the biggest challenges for KS2 children... but it doesnโ€™t have to be! ๐Ÿ™Œ

As a teacher of 10+ years and an experienced tutor, Iโ€™ve seen so many pupils struggle because they know fractions are easier when the denominators are the same ๐Ÿค”.

In this example, we subtract 6/7 โˆ’ 1/5:
๐ŸŸข Find the Lowest Common Multiple (LCM) of 7 and 5 (or write out the multiples if thatโ€™s easier!).
๐ŸŸข The LCM is 35.
๐ŸŸข Convert both fractions into equivalent fractions with a denominator of 35:
โžก๏ธ 30/35 โˆ’ 7/35
๐ŸŸข Now subtract the numerators:
โœ… 23/35
โœจ Since 23 is a prime number, the fraction canโ€™t be simplified any further!

Breaking maths down into simple, manageable steps helps children build confidence and understanding. ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿ“š
