If you've spent this week getting "fine" as the answer to "How was school?", you're probably not alone.
Give them a little time to switch off first, then try asking something more specific.
One question we're particularly interested in is:
"Was there anything today you didn't understand?"
One difficult lesson doesn't mean a child needs tuition.
But if the same difficulties keep appearing confusion, frustration, avoidance or a loss of confidence, that's worth understanding
properly rather than guessing.
